The Wild Rover

1. Well I've been a wild rover these many long years,
And I've spent all my money on ale, wine and beer.
But now I'm resolved for to lay it in store,
And I'll play the wild rover, wild rover no more.

CHORUS:
And it's no, nay, never,
No nay never no more,
I n'er will be called a wild rover no more.

2. I went into an ale house where I used to resort.
I began for to tell 'em my money was short.
I asked them for credit, but they answered me, "Nay!"
Sayin', "Custom as you we can have any day!"

3. Put my hand in my pocket before I went out,
And onto the counter bright guineas counted out.
They said they had wine, ale and beer of the best,
And sure all they told me was spoken in jest.

4. If I had all the money that I've left in your care,
It would buy me a big house, my family to rear.
It would buy me a big house, it would build me a barn.
It would buy me a new coat for to keep my back warm.

5. I'll return to my father, tell him what I have done,
In hopes that he'll pardon his prodigal son.
I'll return to my mother and there I'll remain,
And I n'er will be called a wild rover again.

6. And now I'm resolved for to lead a new life.
I'll settle me down and marry a wife.
And to keep that wild ravenous wolf from the door,
I n'er will be called a wild rover no more. x
