Songwriters often find solace in their music, and that’s just what California musician Ronny Morris has done with his entertaining and emotionally driven song, “I’ll Survive.” This song is honest, painful, and uplifting all at the same time. It’s strange how that works. I guess that’s the beauty of the art of songwriting.

At first listen, you may hear a simple radio-friendly ballad reminiscent of some old Tom Petty. Quickly, that develops into something more unique and interesting. “I’ll Survive” is quite commercially accessible, but it’s a type of accessibility that I didn’t expect. How can a song so personal work so well in this format?

I think it all comes down to whether or not you can relate to what Morris is going through. I have felt what he has felt. Morris may have written a pop tune, but he’s done so straight from the gut without the aid of any melodic templates or cliché gimmicks. He truly feels what he is writing, which is what art is about, no matter what format you put it in.

Life is not as rosy as it appears on TV, and sometimes things just don’t turn out like you thought they would. In the pleasantly melodic chorus, Morris seems amazed at the pain he feels every day, and amazed that no matter how strong the pain is, he keeps on living. In a strong and slightly gravelly voice, Morris sings, “But the pain rules, yeah hey there I survived. I'm not happy to be here alive, and the first thing that comes to mind is, I am alive.” Morris sings passionately, and the harmonies work nicely.

There is a second theme in this song that pays homage to a significant other in which Morris finds solace. He openly shares his troubles with this person and credits them with keeping him going day to day.

I feel Morris has hit both commercial accessibility and personal expression well with his song, “I’ll Survive.” It’s a solid pop-rock tune strengthened by strong vocal and instrumental performances. Keep an eye out for the release of "I'll Survive" on Morr

I'll survive

Written by: RONNY MORRIS

I'll survive

It's not cool what I'm looking for
It's not here; it's not down this hall
I guess I am speaking for the both of us

I don't feel strong, but breakfast is on its way
I should be happy to be here this day
I should be I happy for the both of us

But the pain rules, yeah hey there I survived
I am not happy to be here alive
And the first thing that comes to mind
Is I am alive

It's all right to sit here for a while
Just to sit here and close my eyes
Tomorrow seems far away

But the pain rules, yeah hey there I survived
I am not happy to be here alive
And the first thing that comes to mind
Is I am alive

I pledge to you, though my demons deep inside
I am lucky to be alive
Your aid was my survival I'm alive
