A song that critically examines the war crimes of the Bush Administration and Republican party, the difference made by those brave enough to oppose them and the horrible costs paid by Americans and Iraqis.

Music and lyrics by Harris Bierhoff

What is this war that's worth fighting for?
What is this war that's been waged from our shores?
It demands my support and it hides from my questions
It waves the flag proudly and is shamed by its injured
It's defending our freedoms except when we protest
It expects us to offer our sons and our daughters
Unless we're the few who are too rich and noble
To offer a drop of our own blood so precious
While the richest among us wield moral authority
And charge our allegiance with feigned jingoism
Dare I ask, dare I pry for the answers to the question why
Why and what for am I to die?

What is this war that's worth fighting for?
What is this war that's been waged from our shores?
It wears metals and ribbons and blood of the innocent
Its worldly perspective selective in vision
Its causes are many adjusted as needed
It speaks to us boldly of saving democracy
While chiding the media for noting its reasons
And reporting atrocities, corruptions and treasons
Yet preserving these tactics for someone more savage
While never admitting that we are the savages
Dare I ask, dare I pry for the answers to the question why
Why and what for am I to die?

What is this war that's worth fighting for?
What is this war that's been waged from our shores?
It praises our victories, it dries up our friendships
It secures our assets and lays waste to countries
It seeks out our courage and installs our cowards
It consumes our passions and toys with our fears
While inciting the passions of new generations
To hate us and fear us for a slew of good reasons
And inciting the passion of new generations
To feel shame and disgust at the sins of our leaders
Dare I ask, dare I pry for the answers to the question why
Why and what for am I to die?

What is this war that's worth fighting for?
What is this war that's been waged from our shores?
It pits space against time in a single dimension
It travels so swiftly on a road paved with cruelty
Its hunger is vast, and its victims forgotten
With all guarding egos from the tide of the politics
With some choosing egos when reality has proven
Their guarded position was sorely misguided
And others whose stances are righteous feel saddened
Dare I ask, dare I pry for the answers to the question why
Why and what for am I to die?

What is this war that's worth fighting for?
What is this war that's been waged from our shores?
Its design to defend us was drawn up by weaklings
Who designed it to free us while fearing our freedoms
And envisioned accord, while ignoring our history
And explained the reactions of dissent as treason
Expecting of us our complicity and silence
Unless we were willing to put on our blindfolds
And always agree with their every last action
No matter how vile and crazy their reasons
And I hope that these chest-thumping deep-seeded cowards
Whose screaming for war to make up for their weakness
Be bound by their every last breathtaking treason
To never again be permitted to question
Our basis of logic and sanity and reason
And those who support them in votes or in silence
Be bound by the treason of those they've supported
And they learn to argue with peaceful intentions
And binding themselves to a common solution
Avoid at all costs the short path to destruction
And stop bringing war when they'd have none brought to them
Dare I ask, dare I pry for the answers to the question why
Why and what for am I to die?
Why and what for am I to die?
Why and what for am I to die? x
