Waiting for My Life (To Start Again)
Edgy, dark, pulsing, soulful, modern rock that's slightly industrial, with electronica touches.

Stand
Yes, it's an honest-to-gosh protest song. Melodic, with a strong chorus - a little biased - and shades of Counting Crows, The Beatles, Bruce Hornsby, Todd Rundgren, Hootie and the Blowfish, 60's folk-soul-rock. But I wouldn't necessarily call it retro.

Never Saw a Woman
I traveled back in time to Philly, circa 1972, and stole this song from Sigma Sounds Studios...or was it off the air from WFIL-AM, Boss radio? If you like Motown and Philly Soul, you'll either dig or be offended. This is probably more Gamble and Huff and Thom Bell and Linda Creed, vs. Holland-Dozier-Holland. Think Spinners, O'Jays, Delfonics, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, etc. Right on, man!

Now It's Time
Hard to categorize this song. It's pop, it's soft rock, it's indie, it's a little alternative folk-rock, in the vein of Nick Drake. I picked "easy listening/soft rock as a 2nd genre, but it's not "easy listening" to me. It's a pretty song, a little quirky, to me. Thanks for listening

I'll Step Aside
Our model for this song, or at least my model, was Tame Impala's "Let it Happen." One of my favorite bands these days. Now, you may listen and not detect a smidgen of Tame Impala. I'm having trouble hearing much of that influence myself. But trust me, it was the inspiration. Anyway, to me, another kinda uncategorizable song. Another song inspired by the women in my life. I seem to pick a lot of "glass half-empty" types. "Debbie Downers." Thought about Eurythmics ("Here Comes the Rain Again")and Garbage ("Only Happy When it Rains") after this song came out.

What Happened to Us All?
A song about regret, Influences swirling around in my head as this song was being realized: The Beatles, Oasis, Genesis, Procol Harum, Death Cab for Cutie.

The Violence of Your Heart, featuring Katie Kuffel
People have said this reminds them of a Florence and the Machine song. Hey, I can hear that. To me, it's a little Amy and Adele, with some Laura Nyro in there. Definitely a soul/rock/pop hybrid. Katie's voice is so GREAT! She makes the song. Recorded at the legendary Robert Lang Studios.

I've Been Waiting, featuring Lucas Field
Anthemic. (Hopefully, not anemic.) A song about waiting. Waiting for love, waiting for the long arc of morality to bend toward justice, waiting for all of us to wake up and see. Influences/common ground range from Journey, Foreigner, Asia and U2 to Coldplay and ____________ (You fill in the blank).

Into The Blue
Everything is subjective, we all know. That said, I THINK this might be for fans of: The Beatles, Oasis, Thunderclap Newman, Matthew Sweet, The Shins, Tom Petty, Goo Goo Dolls, ELO, etc. Melodic, a-POP-alyptic, cum immortal-youth-seeking-truth singer-songwriter ballad rock with full band.

Happiness
Mining the same sonic underground as Gary Jules' "Mad World." Piano, strings and voice come together in this reflective, blue, even angry, offering on our much-vaunted and sought-after pursuit of happiness. Not all it's cracked up to be. Dream pop. Lush, dreamy, spacey. If you like Beck's "Morning Phase," Pink Floyd, mellow brit pop, psychedelic leaning songs, with a touch of prog rock, you might dig. There's also some singer-songwriter juju going on. And, at the end, some soulful leanings.

Congrats to all my fellow nominees and the winners for the Golden Kayak Awards, 2018! Thanks to all who nominated our song "The Man in the Window, featuring Abby London" in the Folk/Acoustic Rock/Americana category. Abby and I have a new single coming February 14th, Valentine's Day, called "Listen to Your Heart" and Indie Music People will get that new single, of course. If you dig uptempo, joyful pop-rock, this one's for you. Abby's partner described it as something you might hear at Disneyland! Hmm. I have decidedly mixed feelings on that score, but can't argue with their amazing success in everything. Scary. Anyway, thanks for providing this amazing resource/platform/opportunity for up-and-coming artists, even those of us who have been "up-and-coming" for a looooooong time. Ha ha. Hi again David! What a thrill to peruse your station here and see four 2017 Golden Kayaks icons!!! What a night that was! I nominated you for all 4 GK's and you swept them all! Not only that, but Whitherward and I went 2 for 2; Richard Scotti 2 for 2, Bryon Tosoff 3 for 3, Francesca Tamellini 2 for 3, Cat Dowling 1 for 1, and Shoe City Sound 1 for 1. All together, that is 7 of my station artists that went 15 for 16. Overall, my artists won 19 of the 26 2017 Golden Kayaks. Pretty damn proud of you all and your musical accomplishments and think I am pretty good at picking the cream of the crop!
