SOUNDS LIKE: the grateful dead and tom petty’s love child in the form of soundgarden.
THE MEATHOOKS were formed in 2003 by James Vilade and Brian Wilson. After over 100 acoustic/improv style gigs in many different states, the power-duo started a new 4 piece line-up to focus their style of writing on a new sound that is rock/jam driven with a groove/funk vibe and heavily atmospheric guitars. The recent full album release No End In Sight was entirely self-produced and recorded by the band, including 11 tracks sure to prove their name with musical hooks that are nothing less than meaty. The album will be for sale on CDBaby.com and iTunes in the near future.
The Meathooks are currently operating as an independent artist in the NJ—NY Metro area. Please inquire further about management, booking, distribution and label information.
James Vilade [Vox, Rhythm Guitar]
James began playing guitar 15 years ago and has been "the front man" in bands since high school. James played in Possum and Pseudo Swish Head before co-founding the Meathooks in 2003. He is very fortunate to have a lot of musical influence from many of his family members including his uncle Tom Barth who was a NJ music legend, guitar builder, and teacher. James received his 1st guitar from Tom and was taught by him. James plays Takamine guitars and Martin Strings.
Brian Wilson [Lead Guitars, antics]
Brian begun playing live and recording at the age of 14. He was originally a drummer and then switched his focus to playing guitar. Brian has played and recorded professional albums with Sin 41, Wesfall, (both with Steve Babula) and "The Meathooks." Brian has a passion for analog gear, fx, boutique tube amps, and vintage guitars. He plays Gibson, PRS, Rivera, Old Dog Cabinets, Ernie Ball Strings and Pedal Racks custom pedal boards. Brian has a degree in music, teaches guitar, produces, and writes most of the “music” for The Meathooks...
Steve Babula [Bass]
After taking his first guitar lesson over 16 years ago, it became pretty clear from that moment that music wasn't going to be just a hobby. For Steve, it became a way of life that to this day consumes almost all his thoughts, energies and passions in the forms of playing, writing and recording. Steve has always tried to push the boundaries of his musical style and song writing through various bands over the years including both Sin 41 and Westfall (with Brian Wilson) and more recently with My Locomotive before joining The Meathooks on bass in 2008. Steve is the engineer/co-producer/art director behind The Meathooks latest release, recorded and mixed entirely in his home studio (stephen michael studios).
Kevin Barry [Drums]
Kevin is an accomplished session and live percussionist performing in a variety of established local and regional bands. From the Jersey based original band Swim in the late ninety's to the recent eighty's cover band Devils Advocate, he has been a mainstay to the East Coast music scene for for over two decades. He recently started a new chapter to his music career by joining his longtime friends in The Meathooks in 2008. Kevin plays DW/Pacific Drums and Hardware, Vic Firth Sticks and Paiste Cymbals.
