It all makes perfect sense. To draw lines, which connect individual points, is to create a shape. Tara Jane O'Neil has burned holes into maps, finding home on both coasts and in a city in Kentucky. At each point, a new experience, and a new sound. A map is less an indication of what to expect than a record of what someone else has found. When Earth's magnetic loop flips, all compasses will point south.

Tara Jane O'Neil is an artist and multi-instrumentalist, producer and engineer. For ten years she has challenged herself and us by staying busy - by playing, writing, drawing, painting, recording - both on her own and in collaboration with the many talented folks whom she calls friends and advisors.

Each project is a step in her evolution. Tara Jane began making music publicly in the band Rodan, a cult phenomenon and one of the blueprints for what was eventually dubbed "math rock." Over time, TJO has run the gamut of musical diversity, jumping from the angular, crushing rock of Rodan, to her folky duo Retsin; from the elastic experimentalism of The Sonora Pine, to the arty metal mania of The King Cobra. Since the release of her last full-length record, TJO composed music for a play, and made an art book, published in Japan. For some this sort of divergence would be daunting, but curiosity is not at all like uncertainty - TJO does not follow maps, she writes them.

TJO considers herself as much a noise artist as she is a songwriter. On TJO's previous solo LP's, Peregrine and In The Sun Lines, soundscapes and texture were paramount. The experiments with sound continued on her various EP releases and on the last solo outing, TJOTKO. Her new album You Sound, Reflect is a revolution, the finest example of TJO as songsmith. It is haunting and lovely, but not easy listening: this is beauty music.
