Building on the low-lit interior sounds of their critically acclaimed 2006 debut REST ROOM, Selon Recliner have just released their second album, THE ORCHID DOOR. Working with Producer Dave Holmes (Gramsci, Jacob) the band has explored a steeper landscape, exiting the REST ROOM & soaring across a more varied terrain. Selon Recliners music has been described as having a dark, hypnotic beauty that breezes along on mellow atmospheric guitars, poignant keys and gentle beats. Their Dark Pop label will be furthered by their new work, while showcasing a richer pallet of mood and atmosphere. “If Restroom was our interior album then this is definitely about exteriors”, says vocalist and co-songwriter Belinda Bradley. BACK STORY Selon Recliner formed in 2004 to create music that leant towards the cinematic & evocative. A band packed with song writing & visual arts talent, it was a cocktail waiting to be mixed, a lounge suite of crushed velvet sound waiting to be slept on. Demos piled up on the sideboard, and the songs were trialed in live shows with great flourish. Steady recording took the band underground during the winter of 2005; they emerged again with the release of their debut album REST ROOM in April 2006. It was received enthusiastically with the album being dubbed “Moody, Dark Pop” by reviewers. It collected a couple of international awards, a handful of nominations, charted on a swag of College Radio stations in North America, and picked up licensing deals to MTV, USA along with several other American Production Networks. The sofa had been slept on and the REST ROOM had exhausted its occupancy… it was time to create another space. 7/31/2007 11:09:40 AM Ha, well, I'd be a promoter but I can't find just the right loud sport jacket. Take heart Bels, the Kiwi summer will come soon and the sheep will again be nude. In the meantime, stay warm as best you can. Steve.
7/24/2007 8:31:02 PM Good to hear from you. Thanks for the comment. Shocking how much juice you can squeeze out of one person eh? Funny story, I was driving some friends home after a party recently and my copy of "Single File" came on the stereo. "This is great! Is that Kate Bush?" one girl asked. "No, its Recliner." Said I. "Recliner?" Said she. "Monster group from New Zealand." I replied. I hooked her up with the links to your online resources. This brief tale of ground level marketing in San Diego was brought to you by Rule 11, encroaching on the majors one sentence at a time. Looking forward to the new stuff.
