Where did it all begin? Well, originally the four musicians who make up Splintrz were part of a larger seven piece band, specialising in pop. rock, light blues etc. As things progressed, there was a need to throw some tight power rock numbers into the set. These were so successful that the idea came about to form an offshoot rock band, and Splintrz (geddit!) was formed.
Since the beginnings last year the band have built up a formidable set list , encompassing some older classics and mixing things up with some brilliant modern rock numbers - there is still a splattering of less rocky more bluesy numbers in the set and there are now plans to start putting in some original band written numbers at a later date - patience my beauties, all will be revealed soon
This year has seen a slight shift in direction - quite literally. Some of the not so great venues have had to be winkled out to make room for more worthy establishments: more travelling is involved, but it is definitely worth the extra effort. Check out our gig list on the site for details of forthcoming gigs. We could play a lot more gigs, but prefer the quality rather than quantity approach.
Time to introduce the band:
Firstly, Baz the lead singer.............................................................. Baz was discovered running wild amongst the foothills of the Uorgh Mountains of Uzbekistan at the age of four. He was completely feral and spoke in a series of animal like grunts and would only eat tubers and insects for his first two years back in civilisation. Now completely normal apart from his occasional need to cock his leg against furniture, he is a singer of excellent repute and also plays a fine second guitar (he lost the first one)
Then Paul...........................................................................Paul currntly lives in a burnt out Mark 2 Ford Cortina on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. His social worker suggested that he take a hobby, and after failing miserably at "needlework for beginners" he picked up a guitar. Unfortunately it wasn't his guitar, but the Magistrate was very lenient and Paul now provides most of the technical noodlings which give Splintrz their dynamic sound.
The drummer, Alan............................ will be no stranger to all you fans of Tazmanian folk music. Almost known as "Mr Rythym Sticks" he turned up at the first Splintrz gig uninvited, threw our drummer out and started playing! We can't get him to stop and he seems to know where all the gigs are - and even some that we don't actually have
We never did find out what happened to the first drummer, however, there is an odour where the spare tyre used to be kept.
Finally Scottie, the Bass Player........................................There's not much you can say about him. So I won't!
