My Concerns About AI...
One of my concerns about AI...

The vocals sound too similar...and boring...

"AI Overview
AI vocals often sound similar because they are trained on a limited, high-quality dataset of popular music, favoring a "safe," radio-friendly, and technically perfect, yet emotionally sterile, sound. They lack unique human, cultural, or emotional imperfections, often relying on consistent, synthesized, and auto-tuned-like algorithms that can result in a narrow, repetitive, and unoriginal sound."

Well, AI portrait of AI...lol

Unfortunately there are those who will not agree with you here. Expect some feed back. I for one agree whole heartedly with you! Creativity takes lots of work & AI is the easy way out & really nothing to do with creativity & pride in your creations!

I treat Suno AI like a computer game. I mainly use it for experimentation and fun. And when I do share my creations, I go for total transparency. That said, my next two serious releases will be the next Contemplating Waves album and a mono solo acoustic album. And a fun little side project that I am keeping secret for now.

... And I will add this. I do not think AI stymies creativity at all. I believe the opposite to be true. I once read an essay by Stravinsky discussing the concept of creativity with constraints. He talked about how we, as musical creators, can find many opportunities to express creativity even when we have to work withing the restraints of style. For example, how does one express originality within the formulaic restrictions of Blues? We can all relate to that one, I think.

Anyway, the technology is so new and it behooves us to at least be aware of it and experiment with it on our own terms.

Now I do not think AI is perfect or creative on it's own at all. It is very generic, and the rhythms are so mathematically precise that there is no feel to it; no swing. And the instrumental solos are so boring. I can literally sing the next note of every AI solo before the note sounds. But for trying out different orchestrations and arrangements, it really is a valuable tool.

The truly exciting thing about AI is how it is helping doctors and scientists find cures and treatments for all kinds of terrible diseases as well as accurately diagnosing these illnesses.

If we returned to the vaccine schedule most of us grew up under, approx, 3 versus the 72-90 shots a child growing up today is subjected to I would say it's a safe assumption that the Medical Industrial Complex would shrink by perhaps as much 90% within a fairly short time frame.

AI will turn the world into a giant concentration camp and will not cure anyone of anything... That's my humble opinion on that matter.

A cure for cancer would mean an end to today's 250 million a year industry.. To many people are getting paid very well to keep this charade up so it will never happen.

If one really wanted to eliminate the real source of most cancers it would be as simple as eliminating all vaccines.

Here's just one account from 1912. (Original claim made, there are many more doctors making the same claim during the 1800's..)

""W.B. Clarke, M.D. [said] in 1936... 'I never saw a case of cancer in an unvaccinated person'... And the only vaccine... then was the meningococcal...experimental vaccine...and the smallpox vaccine."

This speaker is quoting from Dr. Clark's book releases in 1936.

Hate all you want, but there is no way any of us could produce something like this without AI. This literally took me about 10 minutes to put together. Orchestra, choir, opera singers, etc. It would cost thousands of dollars and take weeks or even months to do this. I have about a half dozen opera versions, plus a few country versions and even some prog metal versions, lol. AI is a dream come true!

Anyway, song story: I was in a flame war (what's new?) over AI in a group I moderate on FB. A girl asked a simple question and needed some help, and instead of helping or ignoring, she was ganged up on by all the anti-AI gatekeepers. I stepped in and tried to stop it, but the group exploded in controversy. All I asked for was that people follow the rules. No one was getting it, so I put this together, and it definitely ruffled some feathers, lol.

If AI is fart in the wind & a spec of dust passing by, then why put it on here. If those who love it want to experiment with it & view it as nothing to worry about, then why put it on here when no one likes the idea? Experiment on your own because what you are doing is pushing it's agenda on here. AI does make mistakes because it was created by a flawed human! I say we should all take a vote whether we want AI promoted on here or not!
I say NAY!

I'm a very poor man. But I am rich in spirit. I partied too hard in my life without a net, and now I am an old man with nothing. I am thankful I even have a roof over my head and food to eat, thanks to the wonderful woman I live with. And I have no regrets. But I do cringe every time I break a guitar string because strings cost money. I don't even go to guitar stores anymore because I know I will probably never get to buy a new guitar or any other cool gear ever again. And sadly, I hardly even care. I have a crappy old laptop, and I don't even own a good recording mic. For me, Suno is a gift from the Lord God above. Music is my religion. Suno is my church. God bless.

The point is, it took no time at all to create multiple versions of this song in different genres with different instrumentations in Suno, and cost virtually nothing. This is the greatest tool for songwriters (especially poor songwriters like me) ever invented. This is groundbreaking, future tech, and I am glad I am jumping in feet first.

I haven't really got time to waste my time answering Mr larree's demands. I'm sorry for expressing my 1st amendment rights, but evidently that's for Mr larree's discretion to decide, since he wields his first amendment rights left & right here! I'll try not to doo doo my pants Mr Larree & run away, but I digress. usually people who can't perform their own music do need help from "artificial intelligence", but who am I to say otherwise, since most of the artists on here do perform their own music, Kudos to them! When those repeatedly push their views on something that I'm sure most on here do not like, it really doesn't matter! Sort of like when mommy tells junior he must go doo doo on the pot whether he has to or not! I guess repeatedly she thinks eventually he will! So I'm retiring from here Mr Larree, I have better things to do than exercising my first amendment rights here.

Wes, obviously you dont know Larree's abilities , the man kicks ass, his originals are great, so what if he, we, some are experimenting with Ai, it means nothing in the big scheme of things for those of us who are songwriters, performers recording artists.

I played in a number of bands, my own, as a sideman and as a soloist.

I dont have to preach to the choir here, people know my chops are good and I have been around the block as a performer, I am going on 77 and dont have anything to prove here or elsewhere. Neither does Larree the man is a phenom musician performer songcrafter.

Ai is just a tool to use and it is in its infancy. But I aint gonna rely on it for my music.

AI is just another tool like modular synths and samplers were back in the day. It can only output what you give it to work with. So if you are using it try to be as vivid and lucid as you can

This is the thing computers run on frequencies sine waves basically. That is what the world u see round about you is a bunch of sine waves. In a mathematical sense Ai really bothers me

It is like the key master in the Matrix every door has a key that will fit it. Do you really want to open that door. Especially you have no clue of the consequences of that action has in the long run. It is not our generation who will have to deal with the fallout of our decisions

Wes, I would never dream of stepping on anyone's First Amendment rights. And that said, I apologize for making that assumption about you. But I am deeply hurt that you have never listened to any of my music. I have my main page, and I also have archive pages for all my old bands going back to the 1970s when I was a teenager, long before AI, here on IMP. When I started playing in bands, I had to ride three buses and walk a solid mile to jam with a drummer. We didn't have drum machines or DAWs back then. Give a listen sometime. You might actually like it. I think we would probably sound pretty good jamming together. Party on, and Happy Valentine's Day. Kisses!

hey you guys, I see both of your vantage points. Les believes in pure human songwriting and I sure relate to that. Larree is open to being experimental as many artists are. However both of you have made great songs with no AI employed so there's no reason for any disrespect.

I'd ask that from this point forward, all AI discussions go downstairs. In fact I've just asked our IT dude who is finishing up the new site as we speak to make a tool which allows me to move threads from this forum to that one.

And my last word on the subject up here on the pipeline is this. I challenge anyone (like Wes) who hates AI with this much passion to go back to writing and producing their songs as solo acoustic guitar or piano songs recorded on mono cassette recorders. Heck, I may go back to that myself just for kicks. I know I still have my old Sony Superscope in a box somewhere! :)

The Dorroughbys

My two cents which is just my opinion and which I am not coming back to this thread to defend:

I'm gonna take the Marxist view on this one - the value of anything lies in the human labor put in to produce it. In the case of music, the long hours of composing lyrics, melody, and arrangements, as well as performance and production aspects. And not only for the current piece, but those countless thousands of hours most of us here have put in over the years to develop our skills to a high level, that we can now apply to the current piece. Without this labor, a piece of music is, literally, worthless. It doesn't matter how 'good' AI can make it sound, it's worthless. Now and forever more.

However, this is not an all or nothing thing. If a person uses AI just to polish up the sound of a piece a bit that they have already labored long and hard over in all other aspects, then the value of the piece will inevitably be reduced, but reduced only by that proportion, the proportion that the AI added. Adding more AI = less value. Total AI = no value.
