History:
Andy honed his melodic, edgy style in various permutations of Powder Monkeys over the past 6 years and has developed into a committed, charismatic performer whose Rickenbacker fuelled rhythm guitar parts provide the perfect backdrop to a truly original musical voice.
Pete and Joel joined in 2002 from funk/jazz crossover band Spike.
Pete is a drumaholic, a powerful passionate player who combines a superb natural feel with an awesome sound and technique.
Joel's fluid, lyrical bass lines weave in and out of the fabric of The Powders' songs; almost another voice in the mix. The understanding forged with Pete over the last 5 years gives the rhythm section an instinctive groove rarely heard in contemporary music.
Kev's a professional guitar tutor, who played with The Subjects, TFC and Red before joining Powder Monkeys in March 2003. His rich, chordal textures and sweeping hook lines echo and harmonise with the vocal line bringing power and depth to The Powders sound.
The band recorded their first ep "Beauty" under the Powder Monkeys name with producer Ed Poole in late 2003. The title track topped the radio charts in Chile of all places, and featured at the top of the Pulse Radio chart for 3 consecutive months.
The bands first DVD, produced by Richard Chetland, features another song from the ep "Small Planes and Paper Bags".
Following the success of the Beauty ep The Powders (name changed for legal reasons)
have completed the brilliant new album " Just by breathing in". Recorded at West Street Studios and produced by Ed Poole, pre- release response has been fantastic with the opening track, "Lift" going top of the American based KIAC chart and more Powders' songs reaching as high as number 2 and 4 in the same chart at the same time.
There is a buzz about this band, either live, on cd or dvd, people love The Powders' music and the way they play it.
