Jim Carpenter’s Bahia Honda was a slow process — casually tracked over a period of years while visiting friends in Nashville and at LOCO DARE, his Connecticut studio. During that process, Jim produced, recorded and performed heavily on cds by The Rivergods, Village Jammers, Full Dempsey, Vince Thompson, and The Hoolios. Bahia Honda is a heartfelt collection of songs — stories primarily — drawn from his transient childhood on the islands of Chincoteage, VA, Key West, FL and Cape May, NJ. The acoustic-based record features guest appearances by Nashville elite Andrea Zonn, Rob Ickes, Byron House, Jack Sundrud and John Mock.
The winner of the 2000 Chicago Lake County Folk Festival's Songwriting Competition, a finalist in the South Florida Folk Festival's Songwriting Competition in 2001 and 2002, one of three finalists in the Boston's 2002 Rose Garden Coffeehouse's Songwriting Competition, a finalist in the 2003 Wisconsin Fond du Lac Songwriting Competition, and Honorable Mention among the 7000 submissions of the 2003 CMT Nashville Songwriting Competition, Jim has become a respected songwriter, known for his thought-provoking lyrics, powerfully intimate performances, and infectious latin, cajun, and country-bluegrass rhythms.
Having shared the stage as a soloist with the like of Greg Brown, Bill Morrissey, Eric Taylor, Catie Curtis, Small Potatoes, and Garnet Rogers, to name a few, Jim also performs with his band, The Hoolios — a six-piece cajun/latin/rock project garnering acclaim throughout New England with their driving, hypnotic performances. His heart, however, lies within the tracks of Bahia Honda . . . its images of bridges, strands of pearl, heart tattoos and memorable characters.
