An eclectic mix of contemporary folk, blues, country, and bluegrass. Comprised of old friends who happen to all be seasoned musicians thanks to a deep-rooted love of honest music, the Village Jammers have been gathering to play their unique blend of "bluegrass/country/jazz/rock/blues/folk/rockabilly (insert any style of music here)" for more than thirty years. Part bluegrass band, part comedy troupe, part working-class Joes…together, a century of collective experience on stringed instruments, witty stage sarcasm and good ol’ boy beer connoisuership. The Jammers were born from an open invite of friends gathering to play any style of music they knew, and the result was a long-term friendship and a lot of terrific music. They began as the house band at the now defunct Village Pub in Stonington Borough, Connecticut, and while packing the house, they began the generous practice of inviting fellow musicians...some good, some dying trying...to share their stage. The band was infectious with its own brand of ridiculous humor, costumes, and special guests. It's been said that a Village Jammers practice session is much more than just chords and tunings; you get a healthy dose of political debate, blue-collar beer bottles, beef jerky, ball-busting, and oh yeah, some pretty good music too. The band's knack for encouraging their growing circle of musician friends to join them for jam sessions and gigs; talented musicians like Jay Dempsey, Jim Carpenter, Tommy Giarratano, Vince Thompson, Bill Light, and Steve Jakubielski, makes the Village Jammers as much a family as they are a band. Founding member and harmonica extraordinaire Rene Brisson, who sadly passed away in 2000, still retains an honorary seat in the jam circle each session. Whether it's the friendship bond that makes the music sound so good or the great musicianship that makes the friendships so strong, the bottom line is each musician brings a variety of influences to the table, comprising the Village Jammers' family signature sound. BAND NOTE: We "subbed out" the task of finding a name.....we held a contest one night at the Village Pub and let our audience decide for us. The winner was awarded a can of snow peas. Great fun!
Interlude
To Walk The Line a spooky, "yea, though I walk through the valley" spiritual
Heartache on the Run acoustic ballad
Lucky Star our first radio airplay
Cowboy Up Selected for the credit roll by producer David Wittkower for his acclaimed rodeo bullrider documentary film "Cowboy Up"
Til It Happens To You bluegrass blues
I Drive On
Jesse's Reel not really a real reel, rather more a banjo ballad
Your Memory
Cheyenne to Oklahoma a little cowboy poetry dedicated to champion bullrider Lane Frost (click on the song title for the rest of the story)
I Don't Want To Say Goodbye I know...the title sounds like your typical, sappy, lovelorn, "Oh, GOD, not another one of those" songs. Trust me, there's some real good ripping riffs going on here.
Shining Through toe-tappin' backbeat bluegrass shuffle
Fly Away Angel

4/13/2011 11:29:01 AM Thanks for checkin' it out Mike. It means alot coming from you..really admire your musicianship in both the parts you play and how you play them. I know i had it a bit buried in the mix...lack of confidence i guess. I'm gonna try some cover songs to help me keep moving forward. My originals have seemed to sadly become few and far between these last few months. Anytime you post a new tune please drop a link...always happy to stop by for a listen. Cheers...Brother Pine
4/11/2011 4:53:36 PM hey Mike! Thanks for the visit...great to hear from ya. Did indeed survive another winter but not here much.... but with the big change in ownership that may not be the case in the future. I'd love to see this site rise again to respect and prominence. As for woodshedding with the bass..not near as much as i should have...but your advice was really excellent and i think i am making progress. i actually had the nerve to play it on my latest recording called Sago Mine. Slowly "getting it". Hard to believe it would be that different from guitar but for me it is. I'll post Sago Mine...give a listen if ya have time and see what ya think. Thanks for all your help Mike and continued support and enthusiasm....and Happy Springtime!! Brother Pine
