Ruth Garnes
Heaven Must Have Sent You
Ruth is a registered nurse, a poet, and a lyricist. She writes poetry and song on the value of love. Various artists perform her songs. After a long day of the intensity of nursing to be able to shift gears and write something this pretty is astounding.

Alone
IamUnknown.. a sentiment that every indie has experienced at one time or another. But music is its own reward, and this song certainly had to be as rewarding to create as it is to listen. Very nice indeed.

Many of us have written good songs. Some of us have written some great songs. But Steve Ison is one of the few who gets his own genre. Once again he flashes his brilliance here. This song is truly Isonesque.

Tom O'Brien
The School of Wonder Why
I once lived in Richmond, a few towns north of Oakland on what someone called East Grease Bay. I frequented clubs in Berkeley and across the bridge in San Francisco, and though I had friends in Oakland, never explored it's music scene. Now I can see that I missed out. Tom's solo and all-star collaborations have a very easy energy that I marvel at its seeming simplicity, but know that it's not simple at all.

Ed Rambeau
Concrete and Clay
An underrated song from the Sixties, one of my high school French teachers used the lyrics of this song to teach French syntax. Ed Rambeau certainly sounds like a French name, so who knows? I love the acoustic guitar solo, very much like a Marty Robbins song in that regard, but certainly this one stands on its own as a great song.

Ride
Spanning the decades with this tune, the Vines capture the essence of 60's psychedelic pop, the beat and energy of the B-52's (if you close your eyes and imagine Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson singing this, it's a perfect match) and the drive of the oughts indie scene all in one great tune. Ride on!

It's Alright Now
One wonderful thing about the Indie movement on the web is that it allows us to hear people who have passed beyond our fair earth. Sue Bundrick is one such artist. Her family has lovingly kept her memory and her music alive and used it to further a cause dear to her. Click for details. A very, very pretty song by any measure. All the more touching to think of it as a message from beyond.

Art in America
The indie spirit is at the core of this ensemble. From the lyrics:
"Holy radio in all your glory
I need more I need art
The waves are filled with shipwrecked fools
Who dare to sell the souls to the chart
I know that we could go
Down the wasted road- the cliche climb
Art in America
Is different in my eyes"
