High Energy & Funky up tempo song with a live band feel.

All music, lyrics and vocals by Wayne L. Simpson except for Guitar, played by Mel "Melzhynsky" Miller.

This song talks about the changes that hae occurred in R&B music that, over time, have gotten away from the live r&b "band" feel, that the music was known for. The idea that all R&B artists had to sing, act and sound one particular way, along with the perception that old school music and new school music could not co-exist, alienated a lot of listeners. this song simply states that R&b music should be allowed to grow and evolve. If we do not allow this to happen, R & B is not dying...we're killing it.
You're Killing it

They try to tell me... a song like this won't sell
About the situation we know all too well
They try to tell me...a song can't say too much
It's time to figure out just who is out of touch

What makes them think we're all..so one dimensional
That's the music that's real music to me,yeah
And I'm telling you I won't let them tell me that R&B 's dying
I won't let them tell me that R&B's dead
I'm here to prove that there's room for all music
When you deny it.....You're Killing it!!You're Killing it!!You're Killing it!! You're Killing it!!

They try to tell me...the old school just won't do
Go with the new jacks 'cause they bring something new
Somebody help me...if there's something that I've missed
Give me one reason why it all can't co-exist
We've got to let them know, we got to let the music grow
'cause that's the music that lives inside of me.. and I'm telling you
(Hook)
(Rap)

they say I've got to talk flat, cause I gotta be street
Let my pants hang down put sneakers on my feet
put my hat on wrong, reverse my clothes
put gold on my teeth and a ring in my nose
get that hip hop walk and a rolex watch
Every now and then I've gotta grab my crotch
all this time they're sitting there crying
trying to tell me that R&B's dying
I remember there was a day when you had to sing or you had to play
Now if a girl's got a body, they're all gonna love her
Forget about her voice and put her butt on the cover
All this, in so many ways has created these Milli Vanilli days
But remember the artists who made it through
and paved the way for me and you
Like Gladys
"background"(still got it going on that's why she's been around so long)
Aretha(Background),Patti (background), Nancy Wilson(background)
Stevie(still got it goin' on)James Brown, Barry, Ray, Luther(even though they're gone, the songs they sang will still live on)BB King, Larry Graham , Smokey(Still go it goin' on, still got it goin' on)
Maurice, Phillip, Verdine, Fred...put that music in my head
One thing I can't understand...where the heck are the R&B bands

If the music's right and the music's strong
One day someone will be singing our songs!! x
