This song lyrically is about being the subject of trash talking, and negative verbal abuse from the world. As usual with most of my music the end is an uplifting message of you can do what you like to me but it won't stop me from moving on. There is great energy in this track as well as some very strong music and performance. This is one of my favorite early analog 4 track recordings, done with very little real equipment.

Mystery Man

Mystery man tell me
what is it you see in my future
tell me is it pain or pleasure
or unending torture
yesterday through my window
I witnessed a slaughter
it wasn't of flesh or blood
or even of mortar
it turned the snow
into muck down below
my window
it took the sweet silence
and turned it to violence
to play so
the other night a fair maid
told me a story
of how I spit and crushed people
for my own glory
of how the seed of my greed
cut their guts like a Tory
I knew at once
I could not prove her story
I could not deny
to deny would imply
that they were so
so instead I just said
be they truth lay me dead
you must learn so
all the games that we play
but the words do not say
which to follow
most often I agree
that the truth can be
hard to swallow
but living by lies
and games just gives rise
to a heartbreak
while trying to be different
won't somebody listen
it's not late
