Yes, it's an honest-to-gosh protest song. Melodic, with a strong chorus - a little biased - and shades of Counting Crows, The Beatles, Bruce Hornsby, Todd Rundgren, Hootie and the Blowfish, 60's folk-soul-rock. But I wouldn't necessarily call it retro.

This song was written in a moment of rage, inspired by the atrocities of the Syrian war and ISIS. There's a lot more to the story of what happened after I wrote and recorded this song, but we'll save that for another time...

Stand
© 2015 by David Nyro
Sister, Brother
I’ve never known another
Father, Mother; from you,
I learned to love the world
Lessons learned
Always believed to be returned
Childhood burned
Inside a mem’ry of another world
Sometimes we have to say: this will not stand!
Sometimes a blood lines drawn in the sand
There comes a time to rise and take a stand, hand in hand!
Flags, half-staff
Cowards unmasked
Knives that flash
Blinding tears around the world
Sometimes we have to say: this will not stand!
Sometimes a blood lines drawn in the sand
There comes a time to rise and take a stand, hand in hand!
How far will it go?
How much do we simply accept.
I can’t forget when I heard the news
This is a fight we must not lose
Oo o o o O o o o O o o o O o o o o
Sister, Brother; all of you are mine
And all of you are me
Until the end of time
Sometimes we have to say: this will not stand!
Sometimes a blood lines drawn in the sand
There comes a time to rise and take a stand, hand in hand!
Sometimes we have to say: this will not stand!
Sometimes a blood lines drawn in the sand
There comes a time to rise and take a stand
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t run away
Don’t
Don’t
