People have said this reminds them of a Florence and the Machine song. Hey, I can hear that. To me, it's a little Amy and Adele, with some Laura Nyro in there. Definitely a soul/rock/pop hybrid. Katie's voice is so GREAT! She makes the song. Recorded at the legendary Robert Lang Studios.

The idea of this song was inspired by the pain we inflict on each other in the pursuit of love and relationship and that there is a "violence" to that. Not a physical violence in the strict sense, though conflict and heartache definitely can affect one in a physical way, right? From that idea, I created the story of a lover pleading with her lover to soften their heart, to not let this last chance to salvage their love slip away. That she sees his good, wounded side. But it's not looking very promising...

The Violence of Your Heart
© January, 2011 David Nyro
Stop! Think what you’re doing
Wait! Take a moment to reflect
Stop! We’re on the road to ruin
In your eyes I see storm clouds brewin’
I know I should be runnin’ away - yet still I stay,
Still I stay. Oooo oooo
The Violence of your heart
The Violence of your heart, has left me shaken
The Violence of your heart took me by surprise
The Violence of your heart has brought me low. . .
Useless tears fill my eyes
Stop! Think what you’re doing.
Wait! It doesn’t have to end this way.
Please - If there’s any love left for us
Is there anything that I can say . . . to turn the tide?
I know we’re past the point of no return – When will I learn?
When will I learn? OOoo ooooo
The Violence of your heart has left its mark
The Violence of your heart has been such a blow
The Silence of your heart, left me in the dark
The Violence of your heart,
the Violence of your heart,
the Violence of your heart -
has brought me low.
Useless tears fill my eyes
Useless tears cloud my eyes
Useless years, rolling by
Useless tears cloud my eyes
Useless tears cloud my eyes
