"Hope is Not a Strategy" was one of her favorite sayings. Also "That ship has sailed." I invested my entire life in her...And she threw me away, mainly because I didn't give up my music for her. Yeah. Seriously. She actually said that. Yes, it was a test, but how Sh##ty can someone be?! I join the ranks of countless millions and millions. As the song says "When you give your heart, prepare to never get it back." 10 years on, I sail the seas alone, and much happier for it. She wasn't the first. But she was the last. Lots of water under the bridge. A lot of water. Two reasons I walk alone: If I lose another that I loved that hard, I will die. I nearly did. Took more than five years to really come back to some degree. The other reason: I will NEVER hurt someone like that again. I've done it in the past. We all have. Cavalier, taking care of numero uno. "All's fair," we tell ourselves as those discarded lovers twist in the wind. And given the odds of a relationship lasting - about one in 10 - there's a REALLY good chance, someone's gonna get the shaft. (But boy, it provides so much great material for songs, art, etc.
