GLEN HILL
words & music (c)2006 Hugh Hamilton

The ancient house no longer stands,
Victimized by modern hands,
She stood so long, robust and proud,
Her highest rooms once touched the clouds...
A fool with money tore her down;
A fool with money tore her down!

Doctor Winsor built Glen Hill,
And though she's gone she's standing, still,
Among my dusty memories,
Come and tour Glen Hill with me;
Dark foreboding granite stones,
Many families called her home...

Red brick chimneys, roof of slate,
Home of love and home of hate,
The driveway ran a quarter mile,
Children played, and laughed, and smiled...
Ancient oaks once towered there,
But they were felled to build the stairs,
Babies born, and elders died,
Come with me, we'll go inside...

(Chorus)
Here's the room where Grandpa died,
Here's the suite where Mama cried,
Here's the closet, deep and dark,
Where Papa hid his lonely heart,
Such a lonely heart,
A sad, sad, heart...

Though it's been years I remember still,
I can't forget about Glen Hill.

(Repeat chorus)

Though it's been years, I remember still...
But when I'm gone...then who will? x

MR. MOONLIGHT
a family, a house, celebrated & mourned, through the eyes of a poet...big storytelling here w lots of heart...

{{{{ THE FEEDING TUBE }}}}
One of my favorite songs by Hamilton, this version with accompaniment (including nice background solo guitar) tells a condensed bio memory of life at home and some of the characters and emotions lived and left there. A fitting testimony of the past and the lasting effect a house and surrounding property can have on the child/man/all who dwell within.

The Stars Are Never Really Distant
Lovely song with a haunting major-minor feel that reminds me of alot of those ghostly early 60s songs by people like Bryan Hyland and Joe Meek..Definitely one of my favourites from Hugh. Really evocative lyrically as well as musically-Sweet guitaring too..

So how does Hugh qualify? Even if there wasn't a reason (read on), I've never been one for rules. But this station does have one rule, and this song (and one other by him) does fit. Hugh recorded this in our home town at Eric's Dirt Floor Studio. He trekked up from PA to do this one, and that counts... a belated welcome, Hugh!

Which Three Should I PICK?
ROB SILVERWOOD kindly says, "2-Glen Hill the best recorded version-It reeks of Hugo!!!" - and may Hugo add that he's never enjoyed being accused of stinking nearly as much...

Which Three Should I PICK?
LARREE kindly says, "You have so many great tunes!"
