Grew up in a small town
The beach was near my home
Just like the islands
Sometimes I felt alone
Found me a bolder
On it I'd sit and think
It was there I made a vow back then
Of the promises I'd keep
I'm gonna live my life
I'm gonna be who I am
I'm gonna know when to fight, and if I can
I'm gonna love one wife
Help my kids be all they can
This is the rock in the sand
And this is where I stand
There's been wind and rain and storms
There's been a hurricane or two
And just like the shoreline
Time has changed me too
But when I get to wondering
'Bout life's whats and whys and whens
I just go back to that ocean rock
And the line I drew back then
I'm gonna live my life
I'm gonna be who I am
I'm gonna know when to fight, and if I can
I'm gonna love one wife
Help my kids be all they can
This is the rock in the sand
And this is where I stand
Life flies by and so will I
Like the sand that blows away
But through it all I'll build my rock
Something that will stay
And when I die I pray the ones I've touched will say
He lived his life
He was who he was
He knew when to fight, but not just because
And he loved his wife
Showed his kids that they were loved
This is the rock in the sand
And this is where he stands
I'm gonna live my life
I'm gonna be who I am
This is the rock in the sand
And this is where I stand
This is the rock in the sand
And this is where I stand
