Looking beyond the paradigm
I love art in all its forms but it goes deeper than liking what I see or hear. I believe one has to get into the mind of the artist to understand their inspiration and thought processes.
A cold blooded observer is quick to judge and has no patience or interest to study the 'art' in the presentation or production. A warm blooded art lover takes the time to delve, look beyond, ruminate, empathize, ingest and grow to love a piece art/music.
As an example take Vincent Van Gogh - he worked and lived under extreme mental pressure - expressing his self visually became an obsession. No-one thought much of his work, he only sold a handful of paintings in his lifetime - Since his death, the art world has 'caught up' with his way of painting from the soul, putting his inner observations on show, now, we still may not like his simplistic works but knowing his personal story makes his art more intriguing - we look deeper, we see through his eyes. There are songs, or expressions of art and culture at Indie Music People that tend to get overlooked because they make hard listening and don't go down the normal musical channels of communicating with listeners. The art is maybe ahead of its time or just has a limited commercial appeal.

 The Garden Song
 I was fascinated by the intensity and forcefulness of the vocal hook - a kind of verbal pile driver that hammers deep into your head each time you hear it, then masochistically, you crave more because it's grown like ivy around your brain cells and you can't pull it free. There's something in the backing that's quite addictive too. the music progresses instrumentally but the melody becomes a warm comforter you want to have close.  I just can't say enough about the quality of this song, how on Earth could it be languishing in obscurity at IMP without a single add. On first listen you think it's just a pleasant slow rock ballad, well executed etc - but there is SO much more. A piece of songwriting genius with classy changes, subtle harmony and such a beautifully toned vocal. He asks, he pleads "where do we go now" and I tell him he's going into my heart and on to my Station. His name is Art, and I can see why.  The only station adding this masterpiece was "The Bitter Guy Station" (the artist's own) It's time to redress the balance because the song is bursting with art and angst, it has the noisy prodding of the lead guitar and then a soft place to rest and get your breath back.  This was a popular track but I wonder if it was really understood previously. Some might think it doesn't make a good song when a guy sings about his dead girlfriend, especially when the narrative is sung to a happily strummed backing. I'm fascinated by the lighthearted way this subject has been handled but maybe that's how it should be - I'm kind of smiling and crying at the same time - the ending is impressive and joyous until that last 'flat line' note. added to station 5/29/2016 3:58:11 AM 		Alternative 7922

 Took me a while but I found the song with the most art on TSC page. It's a Jackson Pollock of a song with all the tracks splashed onto the floor to roll around in. The colors are dark purples, browns and olive, the brush is broad and applied with strong strokes, maybe impasto. Submerged vocal is the glue to hold the canvas together.  The message is serious, the vocal is sincere and the instruments are well played but the tune and the little minor switches and "Ooh" moments are where I find some artistic thinking. It's a big musical picture that hangs well - you can look right into it and find those carefully crafted touches. Obviously listeners will appreciate this as a solid Alternative Rock song but does it remind them of anything else they've heard? No, it's unique but still very approachable.  (Dream)She IS "Definitely" a 10 !!!
 This is a narrative plucked from a dream, the music is thrusting and the vocals are brave, daring, the lyrics are graphic and salacious in an excusable way but they get more and more crazy and impossible to look at, blood, guts and gore. The bass in constant and relentless the lead guitar is wild and confrontational. Yet for all that I feel the artist wants to prolong the climax and teases the audience, keeps them in a state of anticipation, on the brink, cowering in case the whole thing collapses on their head.  This is not a song as we know it, there's no beginning, middle and end, no chorus or progression, the reason it's here at all is that the artist liked it enough to make a musical sketch of what was in his mind at that time.  We don't really know what's happening here, starts off in a confusion of dramatic passages until it settles into an ethnic rhythm - but this is not the end because along the way it seeps out into mysterious adventures of style and form.  Hearing this new song (in an old style) takes the listener back to the days of folk lore, chivalry and idylls of a simpler lifestyle before the introduction of music as we know it today.
