The Volts
Chequered Flag
the volts are smart, you know. they manage to create a unique sound with intelligent lyrics while keeping just enough of a classic rock sound to please the masses. there are even times where, much to my great surprise, there is a peter gabriel-esque tone to the vocals. think 'lasting power' when you think the volts.

Modern Day Zero
Broken
this band opens for major headliners, but i swear, those tables are going to turn soon if they haven't already. MDZ is production perfect and a band that you'll dial up to on your favorite radio station.

the simplicity of this track is its edge. you have to play it to believe it. then if you're like me, you'll play it again and again.

Sean McCready
Shaman's Prayer
there has always been something magical about canadian music and to date, nobody has ever proved me wrong (so what if i'm canadian?) sean mccready offers a very unique lead vocal that demands attention. sean's partner in crime, matt weston, proves to be a brilliant musical multi-tasker too.

Ashes On the Water
hop on pop's page states that the band is just four friends having fun, and that's appearant when you play some of the many tracks on their page. this track is a perfect theme song to those super, wish-it'd-last-forever summer days. feedback placed perfectly just adss to the fun.

Irwin Thomas
Let's Go
ok! i'm going, i'm going!... something about irwin thomas' voice that reminds me of inxs' new singer dude's voice. irwin could'a won that whole reality series, but this is the better route i'm sure.

The lid
Thinksystem
there is strength in this band that usually requires more than its four pieces. highly listenable, this track is melodic but never soft, emotional but never weak. it just happens. and it just happens to rock.

i thought the best thing that came out of australia was my favorite shiraz but this band has proved me wrong. sure, both are delightfully tasty, but my shiraz is dry. and oaky. and it didn't open for blondie.
