Chicago 9 is a no fuss, no nonsense, high energy, 21st Century Blues experience. Led from the front by screaming guitar and harmonica interplay and driven by a thumping backbeat. This is Blues, but for the fast lane. Residing along the Itchen Delta and neighbouring lowlands; that’s Winchester and Southampton to the uninitiated, their early output was strictly American electric blues covers from the 1950s and 1960s: Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Sonny Boy Williamson, Walters Big & Little, but as the river picks up a pace as it flows seaward, Chicago 9 have too broadened and moved on. Their current set, which has been honed throughout the honkytonks of southern England and the odd Alpine mountain bar along the way, is now dominated by their own original compositions. Written in that same 50’s/60’s Chicago style so favoured by the band in the early years but with a unique Chicago 9 delivery. If you like songs about late night car rides with the devil, plastic surgery, corrupt TV Evangelists or getting drunk with Bangkok chic boys, delivered with the kick of a livid mule then you’ve come to the right place.
Do yourself a favour and see them soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
