""… drawing influence from classicists such as Bob Dylan, while keeping things progressive courtesy of modern folk heroes such as Elliot Smith. Untainted and innocent, Webb's songs are soul food for the masses"" - Xpress Magazine, Perth, Western Australia
Ryan Webb is a 26 year-old singer/songwriter/guitarist based in Perth, Western Australia. His debut independent album “Symphony Of Symmetry” was launched in September, 2008 – an ambitious yet accessible record that delivers much in the way of both heartfelt storytelling and musical diversity, the latter of which sitting somewhere between folk-rock acoustica, blues, alt-country and a little bit of soul. The album was recorded at Soundbaker Studios (www.soundbaker.com) with producer Rob Agostini at the helm, and with world-class musicians on board, it is a sophisticated release that makes a compelling listen.
Ryan’s songs explore the human condition of relationships and of human emotion, combining classic, confessionalist styles of lyricism with the wounded, modern balladier reflections and contemplations of a boy-next-door, and whilst its hard to say if all of his lyrics are a personal account, there is no doubt that they are accessible and easily identifiable in everyday life. Ryan lists his greatest respect for and appreciation of artists such as Bright Eyes, Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams, Pearl Jam, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Whether it be solo or with his band, throughout the years he has experimented and developed his sound to what it is today – a universal approach to music and melody that is seemingly tailored for, and therefore appreciated by, listeners of many differing tastes and preferences.
“I was raised on a healthy diet of Creedence Clearwater, Elvis, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Billie Joel, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and Cat Stevens, but as time went by I found I was developing an extremely broad range in musical tastes, with almost every melodious flavour reaching my palate; I have a deep appreciation for almost all musical styles (and I’m talking almost everything) - just anything that maintains some sincerity and a semblance of melody.”
Ryan has performed all over the southern half of Western Australia, and has also made brief performance appearances in Byron Bay (NSW), Brazil and Thailand. Having grown up in the Great Southern region area of Western Australia, Ryan has performed in many regional towns and satellite cities. Over the years he has racked up hundreds of performances in some of Perth’s most well known venues, holding down various residencies and supporting various artists, such as the nationally renowned Nathan Gaunt (three times in a week in mid-2008), local funksters The Groovesmiths and also indie-pop darling Morgan.
In the past Ryan has received airplay on RTRfm and Hotfm, and he is looking forward to building upon this with his debut album. With a solid release such as “Symphony Of Symmetry” in his back pocket, the horizon looks very promising for Ryan Webb and his band, as they look toward building on a reputation as an engaging and imaginative modern act. Please take the time to join the Ryan Webb mailing list, and if you haven’t already done so, visit the online store and make sure you are one of the first to own “Symphony Of Symmetry”.
