My friend Phil almost died
He flipped over his handlebars on his motorcycle on the highway, and flew over the side of the bridge, falling more than 20 feet.
He should have died.
But he didn't
(Here is a LINK to the story about the accident.)
And now, after recoveringjust a year later he is walking with a cane he is getting set to make his first solo album, with Ken Stringfellow (Posies, Big Star) producing.
He is an amazing musician and songwriter, so this is more than a pity plea; this is a genuinely talented man. Phil used to play bass with Chicago-based acid jazz band Liquid Soul (led by former Psychedelic Fur, Mars Williams). And was the bassist on their best album. He is also more than competent on guitar and keys.
Here is the link to his funding effort:
PHIL'S KICKSTARTER
Just doing this for a friend. I gain nothing from this, but the knowledge that I helped out a really great, really talented guy.
You want to know what kind of a person he is?
He inspired me and about 30 other friends of his to share this link all over the internet. As I type, he is approx. $5000 shy of his $15,000 goal.
Help a brother out.

He made it!!!
If any of you helped him out, I thank you for Phil.
But, whether you did or not, please check out his record when it comes out (probably sometime around December). All fans of Jellyfish, Queen, Posies, etc. will dig it with a big shovel.
I promise.

Here is another story about Phil.
Check out the video.
This one about him rehearsing for the recording. (Yeah, he raised the money!) And he is putting his students on one song a B-side, I believe. That is the song they are singing in the video.

I've heard the final, albeit unmastered mixes of the songs.
Holy shit.
Seriously amazing stuff, if you are into bands like Jellyfish, The Posies, Badfinger, etc.
Should be released soon, and I would be remiss, as both a friend of Phil's and as a lover and purveyor (of sorts) of excellent music, if I did not point you his way when it was officially available.
I am psyched for him, and for me to have it in my grubby little hands!
