Somewhere, Steve Goodman is smiling...
The man who wrote "City of New Orleans" also wrote the song that became the Chicago Cubs' victory anthem -- played at Wrigley Field after every Cubs win.
And while "Go, Cubs Go!" may be his most iconic song about baseball, he also write a much better song about his beloved Cubbies. This one:
Many of you don't care about baseball, let along the Chicago Cubs, I know. But, for us long-suffering Cubs fans (haven't been to the World Series since 1945; haven't won it all since 1908), making it to the WS with a win last night is momentous.
I'm watching this video with tears in my eyes and a huge smile on my face.
Let's do it for Steve!

Being a native Californian born in LA, I've since moved north to the SF Bay area becoming a Giants fan. Both the Dodgers and Giants originating back east still have a monumental rivalry to this day. Being an "even" year it was predicted for the Giants to go all the way once again. They did well but not good enough and that's OK.
This is the last year for announcer Vince Scully of whom I listened to as a kid 50 years ago. I'm sure the Dodgers were trying to win one for their fans, themselves, and of course Vince. They did well, but not good enough and that's OK too.
If you're good enough, then you deserve to win. The Cubs are hungry for it and have the drive in their hearts and that's what will make you a winner! Go Cubbies!
Should be a Great Series!

I love the Cubs. They have always been one of my favorite teams. I used to love watching Cubs games during the day on WGN long before they installed lights and brought night baseball to Wrigley Field. Go Cubs, go! I hope they win it all.
I have been a lifelong Dodgers fan, but Guggenheim killed that for me. I was not able to watch the Dodgers for Vin's last three seasons, and will never forgive Guggenheim and TWC for denying me that pleasure. I refused to be bullied into switching to TWC just for the Dodgers. I refused to give up the awesome service and programming I get with DirecTV. I did get to see Vin's last games that were telecast on free TV, but it is too late for Guggenheim and me. I now call the Dodgers the Guggenheim Blue Meanies and will never spend a penny on anything that says Dodgers on it ever again. Greedy bastards.
I do want one of those Cubs World Series hats!

Congrats to Cubs fans and Indians fans both. I was rooting for both teams once the Mets and Sox were eliminated.
Two deserving teams, both with strong Red Sox connections. And I always thought Joe Madden belonged in the NL.. Two great managers.
Hope it's as great a series as it looks.
Good luck to both.

The Indians are on a mission, too. Yes indeed. They were already doing pretty good, in the mix at the top of the standings in the A.L. Central until the Cavs victory parade. Then they won at least a dozen - maybe 14 games in a row. That victory celebration energized the team. They want that parade, too. This may be the greatest world series ever.

Just re-read that previous post.
And, indeed, I think that it was one of the greatest Series ever.
