I don't wanna be famous.
I just want my songs to be famous.
Since I've started writing songs, this has always been my stated goal:
I'm walking down the street, somewhere on the other side of the world. It's a place where I've never been before, and to where I have absolutely no connections. There's a person walking toward me, whom I've never met, and also, to whom I have no connections.
He or she is singing one of my songs as they walk along. And smiling.
THAT is what I want.

Yeah! I can relate to that!
At our gig on Sunday, after the show during the "chat with the audience and sign CD's" bit, this lady came up with her little boy aged about 8 years old - she explained how he loves listening to Ravensong in the car and how he sings along with all the songs! That felt GREAT!

.....nah. fuckit ..... I want to be famous and notorious!!! ......
Just kidding!
Actually, one of my great aspirations is to be well known and respected amongst a niche and loyal crowd.... Two of my biggest inspirations in that regard (and musically) are Tangerine Dream and Jean Michel Jarre.
I would be happy if the vast majority of the population still thought SuperPuss was some sort of porn while a small but loyal following said, "OMG!! SuperPuss is touring near me! I am not missing that for anything!!"

well put that man. one of the things about mark knopfler that he likes, is that he can walk around with relative anonymity because he doesnt place his boat race all over the shop.
to be known is better than to be famous. FML

It's a very cool feeling when we are gigging our original songs and people clap when I announce certain songs or clap at the intro of a song, or when I am singing and I look out into the audience and people are singing my songs with me. I'm very much in denial about being known anywhere, I kind of feel invisible, like I become the "other" debbie in daytime mode and no-one will put 2 + 2 together and realize that I'm the same girl that sings in the band on weekends.
Last week it was really weird. I was in the furniture warehouse looking for new furniture for my new office so I was in "other" debbie hoskin mode, day time deb so to speak, I'm always embarressed and surprized when people recognize me. The furniture salesman says to me, "You look really familiar." I said, "Oh? I have one of those faces that seems familiar to people" So he looks puzzled for a bit and stares at me then he says, "Now I know where I know you from, You had me dancing on the tables at the Ramada Christmas party." "Remember me?"

In a perfect world I would love to release all my music under an alias and then be super popular. I would secretly be really well known but have none of the hassle of being famous and I wouldnt have to do lots of scary TV and radio appearances. Unfortunately it doesnt work like that. Im starting to learn that if you want to be recognised in a big way, in any way shape or form then the likelihood is that youll have to do as many things to promote yourself as you can. Im a pretty insecure person when it comes to formal interviews and performances so anything that helps to promote myself generally scares the shit out of me.
I never thought Id say this but I think Slipknot got it right in the first part of their career. All the fame, all the fortune.... but noone had a clue who they were. They could have 10,000 fans screaming their songs back at them in some arena on one night, then go to the local shops the next day with no hassle.
