No worries, Scott. I've been talking to him on Twitter and he has no intentions of coming back. Just wanted to get that off his chest so I said that I would help him.
But, this place is toxic for him: brings out the worst in him and makes him feel awful about himself, too. So he won't be back.

For those of you interested:
I think he's doing pretty poorly. Unfortunately.
He's started in the cycle of lashing out and then apologizing for doing so, once he gets a moment of clarity.
He's attacked me a few times, and then apologized. Now he's blocked me.
For the best, I suppose.
While I won't miss his bullshit, I do hope that he gets himself back together. I am worried about him.

Yeah, the same bullshit. But have a little sympathy because, despite his asshattery, the guy is sick. It's a symptom.
Yeah, you can be pissed at somebody who has the flu for puking on you, but can you be pissed at them for puking?
Sometimes you just get in the way.

I can't buy that excuse. My life has had some hard turns over the last few years. I never took it out on other people. So fuck that. I feel for the guy for going through hard times. But that doesn't make him any less the asshole for taking it out on others. Fuck him.

You don't understand, Larree.
He is sick. It's a brain chemistry thing.
That doesn't mean that you have to take his shit; you don't.
But have some sympathy.
Trust me, I have people who are close to me that suffer from mental illness and, if they could go back and take back some of the things they said and did, they would.
It IS an illness.
And while it makes him act like an asshole at times, it's actually out of his control.
Yeah, it can piss you off. And it should. And, as you are not his family or caregiver, you don't need to deal with it, so you shouldn't.
But like I said, you can't blame him for puking. You just gotta get out of the way so he doesn't puke on you.

Yes. An addict. Which is also a disease.
But he also suffers from other mental illness. I think he's bipolar.

I've seen it first hand, Larree. And, yes, that is what it is like sometimes.
Like I said, if it's somebody you love, you get to understand. Don't make it any easier -- in fact, it makes it harder, because you stick with them to try to help them.
But it also makes you more understanding.
That is why I am trying to explain it to you. Not so you will stand by Ray; I don't expect that you will. And I am not doing so anymore, either. But just so you can see -- if you have to deal with it firsthand.
It's chemical. Out of his control.
So yeah, fuck that guy. But let's also hope that he can get it under control for his own sake. My thoughts are with him.

it has to hurt so much that one has to make an effort to change, until that happens, the BEHAVIOR continues, its a vicious cycle. Sure there are factors involved that contribute to someone reacting and acting behaving a certain way, that CAN be controlled. It takes effort and accepting the personal responsibility to do something about ones issues. mental emotional etc. We can't analyze a person and come to a conclusion they have this or that disease. from this blog ,how can we, it takes a professional to evaluate an individual who is struggling with mental illness. Medication, counseling having a support system and making the effort to change. Accepting the responsibility and tackling the issue. Then again, we are all making suppositions and have no grasp of what is really troubling Ray we can only surmise. The internet makes us all experts, LOL

For the record, there is no such thing as a brain chemical imbalance nor is there any diagnostic test that can authenticate this deeply held belief. Brain chemistry is in a constant flux and usually is influenced by diet and exercise. However, our collective devotion to the people who continue to promote this myth have made them very, very wealthy is the foundation for the multi-billion industry pouring drugs into the system to correct the so-called brain chemistry imbalances that they themselves have no ability to measure. That is what real faith in bullshit can accomplish. Now to be fair, chemical brain disturbance can occur once any member of the faithful begins ingesting the drugs that are intended to correct an alleged brain chemistry that in reality never existed to begin with.
But what does that have to do with Ray Porter? Maybe nothing at all but if there is any merit to these mental illness claims being tossed back and forth it probably can be found somewhere in his medical records. Personally I've never witnessed any of his past behavior so I have no beef with the guy. But is it possible that maybe we all share a collective guilt if this guy is really as troubled as we are being told?

Yup, humans are weird. people will come up with all kinds of BS baffles brains bullshit and pontificate justify or rationalize for their behavior. then do nothing ab out their ongoing problem. we dont know, how can we make assessments of something or somebody.

Have any of you ever lived with somebody who has a mental illness?
If you haven't, then shut the fuck up, because you haven't got a clue.
If you have, I am sorry you have had to deal with it.
The thing is, since the manifestations are behavioral, it looks like something they can control. But, that control only goes so far. It's like an itch: you don't have to scratch it, but motherFUCKER you are just compelled to.

yup. one with clinical depression. so I speak from experience. and Todd dont be so judgemental and throw those of us under the bus who have experienced it first hand. your reaction is so unreal dude. you brought this forward when it should have never shown its face here. Many of us have personally experience circumstances yet soldier on without bringing up our own demons.

If this was my blog. I would remove it. there are certain things and bad memories with Ray ,he left a legacy of a horrible track record and disgusting behavior, and for me, I rather not see his name or any aspect of his pathetic behavior that caused a lot of people hurt. Behavior of his kind is unacceptable, he was abusive and did nothing to change over the last decade. still the same. too bad, but he has to live with his actions and own relationships that he destroyed

My son is bipolar, so I suppose I feel a little bit paternal toward Ray.
Have not suffered from mental illness myself, but I have suffered as a parent. And, in that role, I want to let people know that he is not just an asshole.
He's suffering from an illness that makes him act like one.
Now, I do not know him as well as I know my kid, so I cannot say. But I do know that my son acts like a serious asshole very frequently, but that he is a good, good person at heart.
We have to separate the ill part of him from his true nature.
And I think that is why I agreed to post Ray's message in the first place.

I do understand your position Todd, as you have brought forward the challenges your son suffers with, although will never feel any sense of concern toward Ray, his behavior has alienated many people, he has destroyed relationships, is abusive and I personally was attacked by him and his disgusting behavior, so no solace or feeling sorry for him, he has to own it, and he has not, still the same person, has not made any effort to change and says he is sorry, when in fact the same cycle continues, gets no respect or support from me. And his legacy continues, good you have a heart of kindness, I dont, and will never condone that kind of behavior, it is destructive. And making no effort to change. well that speaks volumes
