The Alan Lomax of Indie music
When I was a regular at club shows in Chicago, this guy was a fixture! At seemingly every decent-sized show I ever attended. He documented the Chicago indie scene, and just every single indie band that passed through Chicago throughout the late 80s to early 'aughts.
I think he may have even recorded me or my bands once or twice.
Not sure, but I would be thrilled if he did.
LISTEN:
His name is Aadam Jacobs. And we learned that, over more than three decades, he has recorded, stored and catalogued about 10,000 live Chicago concerts on cassettes, CDs, and memory cards. His collection includes the early work of Liz Phair, Smashing Pumpkins, Jeff Tweedy, New Order, Stereolab, Flaming Lips, Yo La Tengo and much more.
