All I want is to be heard...
I love making music, but sometimes it's tough, when you think that nobody's listening. This place has given me some actual exposure and not only SHOWS me that people are listening, but HOW MANY are listening on any given day. That's pretty cool.
So, I like this place.
I just gotta figure out how to get MORE people to listen, now.
If anyone is reading this, let me know if you listen. And if you could give me some clues as to how to get people to listen, that would be much appreciated.
Love,
Toddie (Hop On Pop)

Once again, I would love to hear that you're listening.
Are you out there?
The charts say "no", but I know that you are.
"Ashes On the Water" appears to have come out as the single; but I think that some of y'all might also like "For My Friends" (80's synth-jangle pop), "Cary's Here" (60's jangle) , "And To Think" (60's jangle), "I Got It Back" (fast n' loud pop), or anything.
You listening?

Hey todd, I tried to listen to Ashes On the Water and I liked what little I could hear of it but it kept starting and stopping every few seconds. I've never experienced that before with any tracks I've tried to play so I don't think it's a tech problem on my end.
I have a very fast connection and can play mp3s at any bit rate with ease. Sorry.
I'll try again later.

They're playing for me well now! Very eclectic group of songs with some very good piano playing. I can hear the influence of the Kinks and the Byrds if that means anything to you. Keep rockin'. I love checking out new songs. For My Friends is my fav at the moment.
And Todd, some friendly advise: the best way to get people to listen to your stuff and comment is to listen to their stuff and comment. Reciprocity is good for the soul.
I've been checking out many new members and I'm always amazed that many of them have no comments on their page. I find it rewarding to be the first one to welcome them. We all want to be heard and sometimes I feel as you do but you have to travel around the site leaving msgs in shout boxes of stations and commenting on other artists's work if you want people to listen. Just like in an election where you want every vote to count, every listener counts and I've been picking up new ones
in abundance lately. The more you give, the more you get! Please don't take this as a criticism!
You're tops in my book and a great asset to IAC. I'm using this opportunity to speak to everyone and this is not directed at you personally. But the subject of listenership is vital to us all and I'm just trying to help.
I confess that Hugh Hamilton has given me lot's of advise about IAC. I'm a good student and love to learn from the masters.

Good advice.
While I do a lot of listening (and a lot of adding to stations), I really don't comment as much as I should.
Thanks, Richard.

Thank you for taking that advice without getting defensive. You are very cool!
Listen to the two songs I have posted on the blog, Tower Of Love and Johnny Appleseed. Only four people listened to Johnny Appleseed and left comments and I'm thankful for that and not complaining but you are not alone in your quest for more listeners! As Hugh has always told me, bonding with musical kindred spirits is what builds listenership. I always listen to Phelgm and comment and he always listens to me and comments. I think you're a musical genius and a walking encyclopedia of rock. Those are two thngs that make you a force to be reckoned with. Play it and they will come.
I will always listen to your work. Sometimes you have to build an audience one person at a time.

Todd,
I've been here almost 3 years, and nobody listens to me........
Course, I'll soon be 53 and I really don't care anymore. That's why I put my old shit back up on my page.
Hahahaha!
I like your tunes though, Dude. Good stuff!

Todd, my friend, you could do a podcast of your music. Direct them to your IAC page. Explain how you came to the idea of the song(s) before playing it on the podcast. Make sure that you do material that you don't mind being downloaded because some people download the podcast. Go to podomatic.com, they have a great site and you can start out there. You can do it for free, but to get more bandwith and the pro stat features, I recomend becoming a pro member. You can see who and how many are listening to your podcast. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve. That's how I started 2 years ago to get my music heard. I now have a podcast that is currently getting 2000 feeds and 100 downloads A WEEK (and climbing)...You have great music Todd as do others that may be reading this. Try it, you never know what may happen...Peace,
Slim

Hi Toddie
There is a lot of good advice and info on this thread. I just want to add something that is true for me about music.
I have alway found that wether it is learning to play, getting and keeping the band together, recording and promoting your music, that it is an incremental and often very slow process. By incremental I mean that it happens in distinct discrete steps sometimes called breaks.
As a wind instrumentalist I practice for months with no improvement, then suddenly one day when I least expect it, it all comes together. I can play that riff I have been struggeling with for the last 18 months.
Ask yourself how you would have gone back in 1950 as a blind American African so poor you cant aford an instrument and you learn woodwinds with a piece of gardern hose. (http://www.alfanet.hu/kirk/index2.html).
It all about just hanginig in there, if you believe in yourself and the power of music to change lives and the world for the better. So dont be discouraged, hang in there believe and it will happen.

Todd -- you're pretty much on the RIGHT road! In fact you RARELY do a PROMO blog -- showing that you have humility.. And DON'T think it's NOT OK to do so! We've been checkin' out what YOU listen to out there in music-land for awhile now, and that ACTUALLY has helped all of us to immediately jump on your original material NOW.
I'm Listening to ASHES on The Water as I write this.... It's TOTALLY got that emo/punk/indie vibe and PLEASE don't slow it down, as some suggested! The pace & your VOCALS are what MAKE it SHINE OUT! It's how COUNTRY/FOLK should SOUND, if you've got INDIE/PUNK sensibilities. You ROCK Todd....
I'm adding it to PHLEGM PHAVORITES for SURE! Thanks for remindin' me to get into your tuneage--- I'll be checkin' more out.

I admit I have been very negligent lately. I use to just play my iac radio stations all day and get very excited everytime someone would release a new song. I really do love the music here. Just got distracted by life, and neglected the things that are important to me, as I sometimes do. I have somethings I need to do. I would like to make a couple of new iac CD's for my car. That's one of my goals for the next month. You will be on that CD. deb

When I get a chance soon, I will sit down and listen to all your songs. I like what I have heard. I'm still working on the mastering of my own, which has taken on a life of it's own. I haven't played a note on the record for a couple of months, but I'm still not finished....almost though. :) Looking at your comment about how many people listen. I'm still not sure how it works, are there more artists than just listeners? The reason I ask, last year when I had songs on here, and was not really on anybody's station, I had some pretty good totals of people listening, a couple thousand in a month with virtually no promotion. ...I just don't know the breakdown of who they were. (I promise it wasn't me :0) My personal situation kept me from being as involved with IAC as much I would have liked, but I was encouraged by the numbers. As you say, it's nice to be heard. I thought if you just went around asking to be on someone's station and they put you there because you asked, or knew and liked you, that would not really mean anything. I must admit, I do see kind of a fraternity here where that really happens, not that there is anything wrong with it... I'm just not sure how it works. It makes me cringe a bit when I keep hearing the word "genius" thrown around (over the last few months it seems to keep cropping up) but I like the enthusiasm. I wish you all the luck and if I get to Chicago I plan on looking you up. Keep on Rocking!

Oops, should have read other responses first before posting mine. Just saw that someone used the word "genius" referring to you. I still would have cringed, but I wouldn't have made that statement at this time. :) Just wanted to assure you my statement was not meant to be anything personal against you, just one of my pet peaves. I'll seek counselling.

No offense taken, Wayne.
I agree that the term gets tossed around way to much.
But, you know... (shuffles feet)... it's nice (and shocking) to be referred to like that.
Especially coming from the folks on here.

I guess genius is much better than the other terms that seem to be popping up on this site. People calling each other asshole and such. I lose respect for anybody right away when I read it in a format like this. For me, this is a place for music discussion, you can go anywhere to hear all the other stuff. Believe me, I know all the words, and I'm quite good at using them. I just don't like to see it on a blog where someone is just expressing their opinion. I better check to make sure nobody mentioned that word earlier. :) Soooo, I stand corrected. Genius is good. Asshole bad. Keep on rockin Todd.

I am having no problem listening to Ashes on the Water...sound good....it is not stopping and starting at all...
I know what you mean about being listened to...I put up a song for Halloween called "Goblins Lookin at Me" and the day after Halloween only one person listened to it and added it to their station....I posted it on Soundclick and it got up to #4 and #2 in metal and alternative metal. I was disappointed that hardly anyone in IAC or on this forum listened to it....It was Halloween after all!!!
