Second MIXTAPE song posted... again for a short time, only.
Yep.
Finished mixing "Hey" yesterday and threw it up here for y'all's perusal.
Hope that you listen and I hope that you like it. There's a lot of little subtle, weirdo touches that I really like in this one.
"Hey"
Hope you like it.

Todd- the new tune sounds hip; very Eno-esque. I really like the little 'sonic tracers' near the end. I'm looking forward to checking out the final collection.

Thanks, Steve.
Eno.
HUGE HUGE compliment! Even if it's only a passing "-esque" kinda thing.
And, really, nothing else on the record is going to sound like this, that's why I'm only leaving the tune up for a short while.
The next song is a very simple, acoustic guitar, piano, and viola ballad. Just gotta finish mixing that one.
Thanks again for the compliment/commentary.

Great feel to this one Todd .... I really, really like this groove ... Once again I feel I'm getting cheated again though ... Maybe it's just me or maybe I'm just having a terrible day but I can't make out the lyrics ....

They're a little buried on-purpose. I think that, if you listen closely to try to hear what I'm saying, you'll hear more of the song and more of the arrangement. At least, that is the theory behind it all.
Unless I lost you completely and you won't listen again.
Hopefully there's enough there to keep you interested.

I have taken down the song, as some of the feedback is causing me to re-think the arrangement and, frankly, I've been happy with it up to now.
The rest of the album, as you know, is going to be completely different, so I don't want to give any of y'all the wrong impression. And, as stated -- more importantly -- I wanna keep my songs sounding the way that I had envisioned them, without second-guessing myself.
I know that it looks like I'm taking my ball and going home, but really... I comprimised too much on the first record for people actually IN the band and I don't want to head down that road again, due to comments from folks who AREN'T in the band.
I think that, in excitement and in my haste to share my new creation, I didn't think that through.
It's not that I can't take critique, I just think that it's the wrong time for it right now, and I want to stay excited about the project while it's still fresh.
Thanks again for the comments. I do appreciate them all and look forward to more, when I release the entire record next year.

You can't lose old Sammy that fast !
Now QUIT that Todd !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .... I just worked my ass off listening and I think I've got it figured out ! ..... I loved doing it too !!!!!!!!!! ... and now that I have it figured out I love the song even more ...
It took several listens but I think I hear it this way ....
Songs don't mean that much to me...
Songs don't mean that much to me...
When I think of all the problems ...?? (question marks filled in at the end)
That's all I want to say
Words don't mean that much to me...
Words don't mean that much to me...
When I think of all the problems ...?? (question marks filled in at the end)
Hey Hey Hey...
? don't do that much for me...
? don't do that much for me...
When I think of all the problems ...?? (question marks filled in at the end)
Hey Hey Hey ...
Songs don't mean that much to me ...
Come they told me Pa-Rump-A-Pum-Pum
( Now I think that last verse is "Pills" ... and it sounds as if it's the same "Pills" at the end ... so it would be "Pills don't do that much for me...
When I think of all the problems ..."Pills Cause"
So if that is right then Using logic the first verse would be ...
"When I think of all the problems ... Songs cause" ... and the 2nd would be
When I think of all the problems ...Words cause"
Now Please put that song back up Todd !!!!!!!
I'm nearly deaf in one ear..
I had an ear drum bust on me when I was little and sometimes I really have to strain to hear things that most people hear naturally ... but that's no reason for YOU to be so touchy ....

Oh hey, I'm really not being touchy. Just want to make sure that I'm not unduely swayed by outside opinions.
But if you want the lyrics, no problem:
“Hey”
1.
Songs don’t mean that much to me
Songs don’t mean that much to me
But when I think of all the problems songs cause
That’s all I want to sing
2.
Words don’t mean that much to me
Words don’t mean that much to me
But when I think of all the troubles words cause
That’s all I want to read
-c-
Hey………
3.
Plls don’t do that much for me
Pills don’t do that much for me
But when I think of all the problems pills solve
That’s all I want to eat
-c-
Hey………
Hey………

And thanks so much for the enouragement. It does mean a lot to me. But, I think that until the song is actually RELEASED, when there ain't no chance to change it anymore, it's gonna stay back under wraps.
Like I said, I can take the criticism, I just want to keep the song my own. Because until it's actually out there on a record all I hear is: "You should do this" or "I would have done that."
I love the feedback, both positive and negative, but I make music for me. And I share it with others.

So I take it you are not putting the song back up ??
I'm not sure I even understand this statement ...
"Oh hey, I'm really not being touchy. Just want to make sure that I'm not unduely swayed by outside opinions."
... I guess you weren't looking for opinions ? ...
...Well it's just my opinion but it's a shame that the rest of your album won't sound like this song .... Personally I find it to be one of the best things I've heard from you Todd .... but of course that's just an opinion....
and this statement .. "Because until it's actually out there on a record all I hear is: "You should do this" or "I would have done that."
I don't think you should change your stuff at all ... never said you should ... All's I said was I'd like to know the lyrics .... Thanks for posting them ...
Making music for you is the right way IMO .... but for us hard of hearing the posting of lyrics is something that everyone should consider .... If you post music for others to listen too then the addition of lyrics is just a nice thing to do ... No one HAS to do so ... but there are a lot of people in my situation that really appreciate it...

I love reading lyrics, as well and I am not hard of hearing and was not aware of your impairment. I'll go back and check my pages to see if they all have lyrics. Because, that is just a good idea.
And as far as taking the criticism the wrong way, I asume complete responsibility... it is totally and entirely my issue with me. At the risk of sounding too politic -- I always listen to and consider everybody's opinion on things. And that sometimes frustrates me to no end, but hard as I try, it eats away at me.
Once the song is done, however, it's done. It might be living in that I change it up live, but on-record it will be and shall remain, as it is. Unless, of course, somebody wants to take on a remix project!

Glad we are understanding each other Todd ... Man don't ever change your stuff unless YOU feel it should be changed ....
That's why this place is so great ... Unlike many sites where people constantly tell you what you should do ... here people try to get what you Do do ....
All the best music IMO comes straight from the Artist ... and most often it shows through in their music when things are "Altered" by outside influences ...
Sounds like you are fully aware of that ...
Keep Rockin' Todd !

Okay, so I put it back up on here, if you want to check it out:
"Hey"
Feedback is cool. I love to know that you've listened! But please keep in mind that the song is done and done just the way that I like it!
Thanks again for listening!
Oh yes, and that is the song that I mentioned finishing when I was talking to Ray Porte. I was on my way home from the studio when talking to him.
