This is why I make music
Just last week, within an hour of each other, I received these two emails from two different folks. They don't know each other, and just decided to email me with these comments.
The first was from a friend who has just become a father within the last couple of months:
I was listening to 'cary's here' the other day....and then this morning I got to stand over (my infant son's) crib as he slept for the first time (he's sick so he sleeps more soundly)...and I've just been playing that song in my head all day...
I saw that song with a whole new light
loved it
thanks

The other was from a friend here at work:
just wanted to say that you are a wonderful songwriter.
I have "Cary's Here" in my iTunes shuffle; haven't heard it in a while.
It took me by surprise - hit me hard emotionally - as simply beautiful.
Thank you.

These notes totally took me by surprise and confirmed that I should keep on.
Within an hour of each other.
It made me feel good.
So, I wanted to share.
Thanks for letting me.

I received a message from someone on myspace yesterday it said
"Just been working from home all day with music in the background. I switched Last. fm on in the hope of discovering something new, but for hours it was just same old same old Until ... DirgeK's music came blasting out of my speakers. Her music so stands out and WOW am I blown away.
She sounds so soulful and free in her expression.
I will help her live on and tell all my friends about her.
Is there an actual CD out ? Didn't seem to find it."
It is amazing that Dirge who was entirely self taught and recorded all her music in the house without any help from anyone could stand out against all the mainstream artists e.g. Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Leona Lewis who all recorded with record companies in recording studios. It made me very happy to receive this comment and proud of Dirge as a totally independent artist.

DirgeK's diverse material DEFINITELY rocks, and her voice is unique, sultry, bluesy/funky and quite awesome indeed... I was amazed when you told us she was under 24, and under 20 for most of these in-home recordings!
Todd -- CONGRATS! It's those unsolicited responses that sometimes remind one WHY one thinks of themself as a musician. ROCK on, you've got A LOT more to COME, I'm most sure of that!

I got another one of these messages from out of the blue today:
*******************
"Suckers" just came up in my iTunes shuffle. Listening to it in headphones. What a great tune. That arpeggiated lead guitar line in the background is so cool. Or is that a keyboard? Sounds like a
heavily effected guitar.
(For the record: it's a keyboard)
Anyway, just so you know. That song really ought to have gotten
radio airplay.
You've turned out some gems over the years. It's really frustrating to me that you haven't had a "hit." I really believe in "Right Here." ("Here" – a song that is going to appear on my next album.) Promote that fucker.

Stuff like this makes my day.

I'm with everyone here, that type of support can be awesome, we were just offered a headlining gig in Denver9at a place we actually know) from a booking agent who happened across our myspace page, which actually directs them here now.
And I LOVE "Cary's Here", added it to the station and everything. So everyone just keep rockin out, this is a great community man really cool, tons of talent.
