Ray Porter's interview with Phlegm
I've been waiting for this one!
Great interview, brother... both of you. And, Phlegm: the more I hear you talk, the more I know that we need to hang out together.
Great stuff.

Todd you are awesome to provide this unsolicited promo !!!!
Thanks for checkin' it out & helpin' get the word out.
IF you are ever in TUCSON or ENGLAND at the same time as us, and WE are ever in Chicago.... we will definitely hang out, & hopefully JAM !
BUT NOW is the time for you to consider a bitchin' project you could do with ME, J.P. Sharpe and your marvelous guitar work:
JP Sharpe has offered to allow me the honour of getting to do a cover of his tune, "I've got the used to be cool back in high school blues", as a cuntrified/punk/pop/rockabilly thingee:
I told him I'd try and get TODD, of HOP on POP, to do the guitar work and backing vocals/ chorus
and ME and my drummer will lay down the bass, DRUMS and LEAD VOCALS....
I WANT it to take the opening licks from HIS original for a couple of measures, as an INTRO.... An actual SAMPLE of JP playing.
OR we could do a NEW version with him playing the mellower, folksy/blues intro. LIVE NOW but I think it would make his original that much more relevant if we include a sample from the intro to JP's actual song.
I want to cover it with Your and my unique understanding of eclectic punk/country/blues/folk stylin', but STILL give a kiss to the original.
WHADAYA THINK? I think we could make it KILLER. GO right into FAST PUNK riffs for a measure of two, and THEN start in with the vocals. OF COURSE, we'd give YOU a few leads too and backup vocals if you want. I could get one of my guitarist to do rhythm guitar too.... BUT I leave that up to YOU as GUITARIST extroadinare....
I know you're busy like us all. Get back to me when you can, I've left a post for JP on my page & his page too. Thanks or how cool you've been to me on IAC!
EXCITED about this project, and a chance to promote YOURS, JP's & my own style at the same time....

Ha!
I love that tune! I've had it on one of my "Good Stuff" stations for a while now. And, if I can come up with the resources to play/sing on it, I would love to do so.
Thing is, I don't have my own recording setup anywhere. I'm doing all my recording with other folks and would not have the first clue about how to go about doing this on my own.
Sucks being broke, AND technologically challenged: I can't do the collaborations that I would love to do. And I can't get the equipment that I need to get to make it possible. Sucks a bag full of... um... never mind.
Also, honestly, I've always thought of myself as kinda crappy (possibly adequate, on a good day) guitar player. So, thanks for the ego boost!!!
I'll drop you a line where we can talk about music stuff some more and maybe figure a way to do something. Maybe there is a way?

Where there's a will there's a way, my brother in music....
Perhaps some richie-rich with access to a "pro bono" studio, in between CHICAGO & TUCSON, will help us out. You never know!
Otherwise, I'll start the juices flowin'
We might just have to settle for LESS than perfect production, and do the old D.I.Y. way......
By the way, if you wanna get serious about this shared COVER project with J.P. Sharpe --- Here's my telephone - 520-546-4522.... I'm kinda serious about doing this thang, so you can call collect. Just mention something on the recording that'll let me KNOW it's you.
ROCK on Todd, you not-so-wealthy musician after my own heart. I'm in the same poverty philled phlock as you. -pHLeGm
