What inspires me? What inspires you?
This is something that I need to figure out. It's been more than 2 years since I've written a complete song. I found an old tape of half-finished songs that were pretty promising, but still... nothing is coming to me.
The music is there. The melodies are there. But the words are not coming.
I'm a writer by trade, fer chrissake!!!
I need inspiration. I need something. I'm dead inside. I need a Doctor Frankenstein to bring me back, but what will be the unholy product of such meddling? I refuse to play God and I refuse to just lie there dead. But I need to do something, or I will stay in music purgatory forever.
And my death will be the death of me.

well there are so many ways to write songs, you need to find a new one that doesn't run into the bump you're currently experiencing.
Ever try just building a song from one simple line ? Then all you have to do is find a good line to start and the rest will come easily (well it does for me, anyway)
How about automatic writing ? Light some candles and get a paper and a pen. Sit in a totally silent room (a slightly inebriated state helps) and just try to make your mind go blank then write the first words that come into your head. Some people ask a question out loud first and then wait for the answer.
Here's another device, magnetic poetry. Fool with this until you get something that does something for you.

For every 10 songs I write only one or less, gets to be heard (by others)
Like you, I have boxes full of unfinished songs or tunes, some of which are now unfamiliar to me. Don't expect the very next song to be -------the one!
Get into the habit of writing, scribble notes in a book----often---mix and match, look for a theme that excites you, who are you / what do you want to say?
Do it for yourself----not for an audience, be critical, but not dissappointed, keep it all and browse back through, what you didn't like on wednesday you may feel different about on friday.
Do a little most days ----get in the habit---it's just poetry---it's you!
I have been teaching at the local Polytech this morning------Songwriting!!

I went an entire year not writing. Blocked ...dead. The more I thought about it ..the more blocked I became. If you write and scribble in a notebook. It gets the nonsense spinning around in your head out and onto paper. Don't try to make it lyrical just get it down. Then ideas will start to flow. I wrote a song called "Wake Me Up" which is just about this problem. ...but I had to scribble about car payments, problems at work etc. first. Good luck to you.

I thought that he inspired me, too. But I listened to the rant at work, where I have no accesss to a guitar, and no time to write poetry.
But... nice new piece, Jawzy. Me likey!
