Apparently he died of a heart attack on Friday 9-11-09 at his NYC home. This is so sad. Thanks to Scott, Jim was an IAC fan and he will be greatly missed. Like so many great musicians here at IAC, Jim never truly got his due in the music world, but I will always remember the first time I heard "People Who Died" on my radio while flying across the Mojave in my RX-7! It had me doing 130mph. What a rocker! Rock on always in our hearts and minds Jim Carroll!

I'm extremely sad about this one.
This man was not ONLY one of the actually SUCCESSFUL (commercially) artists on IAC, but he's had his music played on countless radio stations (mainstream), and his tunes were used in everything from Hollywood Blockbusters, to very cool Underground Films.
He was an honest to GOD, GENIUS, for reals.
A writer and POET as well, like a More Modern William S. Burroughs; AND he wrote "The Basketball Diaries", which was made into a movie in the late 90's, starring the VERY famous Leonardo Dicaprio.
He will be SURELY missed, but his MUSIC, writings, and FILMS he contributed to (and WROTE !!), will LIVE ON.
Timeless, indie artistic triumphs, like this man's, are TRUELY a rare thing.
So let's give People who died a listen, and his many other great works on IAC. In memory of this AWESOME spokesman for the Counter Culture.
Rest in Peace Jim.
