Do I have "The Eye Of the Tiger"? I'm gonna find out.
Last night, while dropping my son off at his guitar lesson, I ran into Jim Peterik, dropping off his guitars for some work. He was the singer/songwriter for The Ides of March and songwriter/guitarist for Survivor. He wrote both "Vehicle" and "Eye of the Tiger". Not bad. We had a brief conversation. I found out that he did write the horn chart to "Vehicle" he was 19. ("I was a kid and didn't know anything; got lucky.")
When he asked if he could hear my new CD, of course, I obliged.
I had run into him before and when I had last seen him he asked me if I was any good as a songwriter. I responded by saying, "Yeah, I think so. Other people seem to think so."
"But are you really any good?"
So, I signed his copy of the disc:
"Jim-
Thanks so much for listening. Am I really any good?
-Todd"
Then I put my email address on there.
We'll see if I hear from him. He's a pretty nice guy, if a bit of a character. Very curious to hear what, if anything he has to say.

There ya go.
Now THAT's a chance connection that could REALLY matter, if he digs your awesome/diverse tuneage.... Congrats, man. You deserve something good to happen with your music, Todd.
Of course I'm just A little envious too... But happy for you, especially if he actually listens to the music, and takes the time to responde, etc.
Must be AWESOME, livin' in the Big Windy City, with so many successful artists/musicians always floatin' 'bout.

I live in the suburbs. So, where I'm at it's the older rockers floating about: Jim I see around here and there; JY (from Styx) lives less than a mile from me. My kids trick-or-treated at his house.
But, for the most part, even though I see some of these guys, I don't hang out with them or anything. We're all just trying to get through the day. They just have more guitars (and nicer guitars) than the rest of us.

Go get 'em, Tiger...
I never have met anyone with any connections. I have dreams where I do, but in every single dream I can't find the tape to give them...
In every dream I have where I'm supposed to play for people, events always go awry, and I never can start the show. I've never successfully played a single note to an audience in my dreams...
Anyway, you are the real deal writer, and now it remains to see if he's the real deal able to understand that.
What did you drop him?

Way to go Todd!!! You have to have confidence in your abilities to go far in this game. That means putting your music out there for others to hear. if you don't have confidence in your music, who's gonna have confidence in you? Way to go buddy. Good luck, I know something will come of this...
