The Knack Lead Singer Doug Fieger Dies
Doug Fieger, the lead singer of The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit My Sharona, has died at the age of 57.
Fieger, passed away at his a home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after a six year battle with cancer, according to The Knack's manager, Jake Hooker.
He formed The Knack in 1978 and the group quickly became popular in LA rock clubs.
It was when Fieger co-wrote and sang lead vocals on My Sharona that The Knack started to become known beyond Sunset Strip.
Fieger said the song was inspired by a girlfriend of four years.
"I had never met a girl like her - ever," he said in a 1994 interview.
"She induced madness. She was a very powerful presence.
"She had an insouciance that wouldn't quit. She was very self-assured. She also had an overpowering scent, and it drove me crazy."
My Sharona emerged during disco's heyday and held the number one spot on the Billboard pop chart for six weeks.
He never recreated that single's blockbuster success but he continued touring under The Knack banner.

This is sad news... I was in a Band in High School that played Beatles an Knack Songs. We wore the white shirts and skinny black ties.We played most of the songs on their first Album "Get The Knack" It really was a very good album, with excellent songs.
I think what lead to a backlash against them was Beatle comparisons...played up by them or their record label. When you opened up their second album, there was colored artwork that showed them inside a limo, with screaming fans outside. An obvious reference to the Fab four and their popularity. It was rather pretentious, it put many people off...especially fans who liked them and were also Beatle fans. The second album did not live up to the first and they started to slide. They had a few other albums with some good songs, but their fate was already sealed.
He was a good writer/singer/Performer... I am sad to see him pass away...rest in peace Doug, maybe you can now hang with some of your idols.

"Get the Knack" is actually a pretty good solid album that still holds up and sounds fresh as a daisy.
Sad to hear - - but then what had he really done for the last... 30 years?
everyone is getting old and fucking dying.
death is total bullshit.
