I agree Todd, and relegating the Pipeline to a community link backroom most will miss is not helping.
Not sure what is going on here, but there is little if any participation. According to my page, people are visiting and listening...but they are just numbers that rise and fall in the mist...

For the record, you seem to have something of a live spark which is lighting the darkness. But for the most part you're right. Are Indie musicians going through a kind of mass-depression? Maybe we need some kind of a game to get things moving. Like you do a song review of someone on the pipeline (good or bad), then they do a review of someone else. Tag - you're it. I'd review one now, but I'm at work with no speakers.

There is a quiet as the age of indie passes on the net.
Personally, I hope that folks got something out of it as it morphed into interactive TV.
Popular music is unique. The new is cool and music follows fad and fashion ... but people today don't relate to Frank Sinatra on a daily basis ... as good as he was.
We may be as good as Frank ever was, but we're so not going to present as cool. I may be musically intriguing, but culturally passe'.
But that's the way things go.
I don't fucking give two fucking cents about what others think ... but I don't sell music anymore, per se. I give it away.
Be real. Who would be interested in me? Do I spend money on making my habit sound better. You bet! I'm an idiot.

I just want to know who the hell the few thousand listeners of my songs are (according to IAC Stats)??? Hello?? are you there? You would think artists would feel their presence in some other tangible way.....
My top two reasons the Indie movement is being dismissed by many.
1. Too many mediocre / bad songs being posted, overwhelming the listener and leading them to believe the whole movement is nothing but a wannabe artist amateur hour.
2. YOU TUBE ...for many reasons.

Been busy ... I think that's a major problem here ... most folks get busy sometimes ... life just keeps happening ... for one reason or another, a lot of the "good" folks are gone ... but a lot of "good" folks still here ...
Indie isn't even close to being dead ... just picked up a major fan this last week ...
Grab your guitar/instrument and go sit at a corner ... or in the park ... play YOUR tunes ... I think you will be surprised to find out just how alive Indie is ...
This place is what it is ... a Great place to post yer tunes ... it's up to us to get people to listen

I think a lot of the bad folks have gone, :) I think that makes iac a better place again,
One thing that would make it better for me personally in these times of financial hardship would be to increase the number of songs capacity for basic artists,
I think ten songs, in line with IC-interconnected, would be a medium, I think twenty would be ideal, but the advertising revenue generated here prolly wont cover that would it?
The main reason for good folks keeping their heads down in my opinion is the level of personal insults hurled by the bad folks,
Like Sam says, there are plenty good folks still here, but there is only so much personal abuse that an individual will tolerate. huh...
Anyways, whadaya say? twenty songs for basic users? Artists are better traffic generators than XRumer you know :)

I agree with ya Chris , by the way great newie of a song you put up, I added it to my inspiration station. anyways. yes. things got too personal here and reckless thoughtless comments abounded like a stinking outhouse in the summer. there were many who bolted and are still leaving,.not because of what transpired back when, but because things are just kinda stagnant, and it is deeper then the personal insults but that is a key element why others took off, KW has stated the obvious but his posts get thrown in the garbage or hidden perhaps because they hit too close to home. the truth always hurts. but it is important to keep people in any community of what is going on in any organization.
I just wish that a blanket news release would be posted here as it was around other media outlets on the net......at least I did not get anything but there was a media release on March 16 maybe it came to me, but I dont remember getting it
did you all. This is just something I happened to find out their trying to figure out what all is going down around here myself.
but then again this is for soliciting new artists to come onboard
again, management is trying to make things happen and I am sure every effort is going into making this a good place to be

Basic - That's what I are here. Work during the day, if there's something to do, Pick tunes at night, if there's some place to play - and try my best not to watch my kids grow up in pictures. After all these months I must be (Provisional Perpetual) because the little box still says I could be gone any day now. Don't see much reason to start a station if it could be gone at the click of a mouse. However - I do come here each and every time i fire up the web. I've spent my fair share of time checking out a shitload of Pure Talent. I diden't find IAC - they found and invited me to the site. I was alittle surprised when i got the (R U GOOD ENOUGH) to be here e-mail. I am basic, there for I don't bitch about policy. I do wish they (IAC) would shit or get off the pot. Here again, I'm not going to start something somebody else can shit can with a click. Also, I do agree it's hard to see where an artist is comming from if they (we) have a two song limit.
Cul
The GO box is gone - Apparently I'm not

I hear You Cul... IAC had the initial idea to strive for quality on the site, that would cut down on the problem I highlighted earlier. However, it seems they did not follow through , as they have not done with other things initiated. Someone should not remain "provisional" for very long.
Also, If they invited you here, it makes no sense to classify you as provisional. Personally, I think anyone who is "active" here should be welcome, regardless of subjective quality. Its the dead weight drop and run that need to be managed.
Regards,
Jeff

Indie is NOT dead, just as PUNK is not dead.
As long as you believe in what you're doing, and have a few people who actually care to listen, and watch you perform, and keep evolving in your craft; original music from REAL artists will NEVER die.
We STILL need one of the IAC regulars to Break Big to really get things moving though, but until then.....just keep following your individual and collective Muses, is what i say, and LIVE the fuckin' dream, to the best of your ability, with or without cash-flow....

Hey Rose, I'm with ya, I think its going to be just fine...its a matter of what you are willing to invest in time and keeping the community here energized. I try to do that.some have been jaded I guess, it happens, no expectations, no disappointments
but you do need goals and objectives, challenges and opportunities to prevent things going static or stagnating ,.but what i try to do is challenge myself and provide opportunities to meet these goals, time is the issue for all of us. for me it is inspiration and being in the moment......I have found a bunch of ideas I put down on my zoom quite by accident recently , I had forgotten about them. then took one or was it two and made something out of them.....not all ideas are going to germinate or develop into anything,. but i always have that little Zoom H2 right by my piano and lay down chord progressions or melodies, but sometimes I just scratch it out on a piece of paper or music manuscript and score it out
make sense.
thanks for your input, and added up your newie to music is truth.good one Rose

Hey Bryon,
I dug that video. Nice to see AND hear you chillin' and talking... put a manner and speaking voice to the writings and icon pic.
And: you all have some good things to say about all of this IAC stuff. I know that, in starting this thread, I probably asked for a shitstorm, although I didn't really think about what kind of shitstorm it would be. Turns out that it's been a pretty productive one.
I do love this site, have brought a lot of people here, and would love to see the topics back on the front page. That, for one, I think would help lift the energy a bit: bring the community back to the front.
(I have no focus today and will therefore stop typing to avoid rambling.)

IAC isn't dead, it just smells funny.
I agree with Sam...We're all so busy trying to survive! As artists though, I believe we will always buy out the time to create. I've always have a couple of new tunes I'm working on, however, the time for it is in between job hunting, taking my wife to the emergency room (long story), and playing gigs with my cover band Dance Maxx.
I think a lot of us kind of drop in to multiple sites on the net, sort of making rounds, and of all the sites where I give away my music...IAC is my favorite. I just don't know how much longer I can PAY for it.
I pay to go to gigs, rehearse, and mantain decent equipment for live performance, and the compensation fluctuates. I've been out of work for so long (architectural), that I had to sell all of my electric guitar equipment. I can break even playing live, however, it's costing me to give away my original music.
Seems weird to me, to have to pay to give away music...but that is the reality.

Todd!
Sorry --no cake just some crumbs, and the seagulls are hovering
Bryon it was good to see you are a person--and all that entails, but to the matter in hand?
I think IAC is a community that has a struggle--- to be defined!!!!!!!!
---as although all the necessary software and facilities are a click away, it still behaves as though it is one persons site that we all share,
--- and that person is oblivious to the inequalities and behaviours that drive sane peeps away to try to find "the nirvana" at other sites (and there are now thousands)
-- so it keeps a few loyal friends, the ones who seldom speak on the pipeline the salt of IAC, I could now insert a long list but they know who they are
-- plus the stalwarts (station managers) Like Bryon and Phlegm and myself , but as for a feeling of "Community" there is a disfunctional family feel instead.
Maybe that is interesting and exciting for some of you---but my life has a lot of that shit in it already----so I like to see everyone being treated the same, I notice that when new artists connect here they rave about the place and then that gradually fades to black as they get through the honeymoon period and find themselves on their own---and they lose interest and wander off.
Like Bryon I find this IS where I want our music , but I would like a clue from time to time what that noise of smashing chairs and tables is in the back room----is Larree right---are they all crack addicts?--- ha ha ha I don't think so
love ya

I agree with ya Chris , by the way great newie of a song you put up, I added it to my inspiration station
Thankyou very much for that, its most appreciated that an experienced player and tutor should offer such praise.
Looking at the time stamp on the wave file, the track was recorded circa 2002,
At that time I had recently been studying jazz piano as part of a two year music college course.
In order to pass the playing exams I'd been practising up to four hours a day, I failed my playing exams in first year due to nerves, but managed to place them far enough away for the higher level second year tests and scraped through with enough marks to obtain the certificate :)
I had to play three standards in a format of "head, improv over 16-32 bars, then DC al coda"
The jazz piano course is ABRSM, and at the time was setup and devised by Richard Michael of St Andrews University.
I think I got to level 3 out of 5, then I got ill and ... here I am...:)
neway;
I dont remember that mailshot from march 16, but prolly just banked it, :) but back on this topic of Todds, the funny thing is I got attacked, misquoted and ridiculed on another site for the posting I made above. Strange that?
Water off a ducks back though. As one of my music tutors used to say "Worse things can happen at sea"
