Polar Opposites Solo Artists and Songs
One thing I always believed in is when you are in a band
and you play certain types of styles, that is the Band's sound.
Then when someone goes solo, it's supposed to be because you want to express yourself in a different way, with a different sound that you couldn't achieve with your band.
Even if by going solo it's to start a totally different band with it's unique sound separating it from previous band. Even if it's a concurrent side project.
It was always a pet peeve of mine when I see a big time artist leave his band or goes solo while still in band, and what he/she releases is basically the same sound.
I think it's just a vanity thing to have something with just your name, but com'on, shouldn't it be different though?
A good example is Phil Collins, He did a few solo albums, but for the most part it still sounded as if it were released by Genesis.
Fred Schneider released a solo album that was good, but, still sounded like a B52's album!
I'm sure there are many other artists that fall under that notion.
Even here in IMP. Why release songs under a few different pseudo-names if the songs all sound basically from the same band. (You all know of one distinctively).
Which brings me to my own releases by TJDP and The Dyall-Tones.
Two distinctively different sounds, different styles.
Different musicians participating in these two projects.
Today TJDP released a Hard Rock song, bordering on Metal, or Grunge,
called "Loaded Gun (She's Dangerous)

The Dyall-Tones released a light Tropical Pop song called "At The Beach"

Two polar opposites of each other.
The only common ground they share is songs were written by yours truly.
But to anyone not familiar with my recorded songs, upon listening, I doubt they could hear that connection. As each "band" has their own distinct sound(s).
Perfect example is my song "Save Me"
The Dyall-tones released it as a catchy upbeat Beatlesque song.
A few months later, after someone pointed out lyrics read as a sad ballad,
TJDP did an Emo Pop version of it (which, by the way would had been perfect had Francesca Tamellini sang it, but I digress). Again, polar opposite of each other.
TJDP is more of a modern rock band which occasionally dabbles in blues, Top 40,
Pop, R&B, dance, goth, emo, on and on and on. Though Modern is key word here.
While Dyall-Tones is mainly a Retro Rock band focusing primarily on various 60's styles, with an occasional 50's and early 70's styles.
And we experimented with a few 80's songs done in a 60's style too! Sounds good!
So, isn't that the point of having a solo artist side as opposed to a band's repertoire, to release different songs apart from band?
To me, that's how it should be. I see it as pointless releasing songs under different personas if the sound is distinctively the same.
This is of course, my personal point of view and opinion.
What is Your take on this topic? Do you agree or disagree? And why?

I would only set up a new account if I had a new band and my band mates wanted to have a presence here. If the rest of the band was not interested I would just add a song or two with that band's info in the song info box, along with any links to a band website, or iTunes links, or whatever. Or. if the band is not currently performing or playing I would just add a song or two to my page. I would not set up a separate page for some ancient band of mine.

Hi Larree, thanks for your input.
But its not about whether or not to start a new page here in IMP or other sites.
Lets say you already have 2 pages (or more as some people have)
Its about having each entity different from each other music wise.
Great example, Hootie & The Blowfish.
Great band, great Pop Rock songs.
Then singer/guitarist Darius Rucker went solo,
and to the surprise of many, he performed Country songs!
This is what I mean. He went on to do something much different
than what he did with his band.
It would had been redundant had he recorded songs that
sounded like his band. And what would had been the point of
going solo or start a new band if you still sound like your old band.

Well, my stuff doesn't all sound the same. In fact, I pride myself on not sounding like the same band from song-to-song. So, that is just part of my thing, I guess, and another reason why I would not create new pages for my different sounds. At least for the way that I am working, currently. I do have different pages for my older bands.

@Hop On Pop. That's basically what I mean.
TJDP is a multi styles band, with leanings towards more modern sounds.
I have a thing for not wanting my songs pigeon-holed, or typecasted musically.
But having a bunch of 60's influenced songs,
I decided and chose to create a new band and page strictly for that.
The Dyall-Tones only does Retro Pop and Retro Rock in a variety of 60's styles. TDT wont be releasing any songs that sounds like today's Top 40 or modern rock.
