Name dropping - to drop or not to drop
Do you think name dropping is OK or not?

We have a gig coming up in January and one of the guitarists just joined a pretty famous band. So I was wondering if mentioning that connection as one way to try to promote the gig was an OK thing to do...

What do think?

Well you shouldn't have made this post, you should've just mentioned this subtly on several blogs here, then I'm totally sure that many pipeliners would be kissing your ass like you are friends with Juliette Lewis. :D

Bluto cleverly pointed out this "Well you shouldn't have made this post, you should've just mentioned this subtly on several blogs here, then I'm totally sure that many pipeliners would be kissing your ass like you are friends with Juliette Lewis. :D"

============================================
hahaha, Bluto does it everytime , quick off the mark and sharp witted as hell.
its true though......and name dropping is a good thing, if done in a discreet way...
I have done it for groups in the past , it sure dont bloody well hurt one damn bloody bit, and looks good on ya..damn it anyways

name dropping is good if you are a star struck wannabe.
name dropping is bad if you like credibility.
true credibility is achieved on own merit, shit cred is achieved by name dropping.

so who do you know that knows somebody?

Now that is a good one Bruce...I like that one a lot........ya smart ass. but smart and sharp
i am talking about who you may have opened for , worked with or shared the stage with......
that should be worth something, especially when you got invited by the promoter of an event that featured some larger then life bona fide star

Did I drop a name or two?
I guess.
But I only did so because I thought that it was relevant. I think that Hugo's partner is relevant to his career, as well.

So, if the namedropping is relevant, it's fine. But just to namedrop for its own sake... that's pointless and can actually backfire on the credibility front, as Bruce pointed out.

true Todd......but be discreet about it. and big whoop who you been with, shared the stage with. it dont make you a better person, musician all that. BL is absolutely right on for sure....I respect what B.L. offered. MMA is coming to Vancouver soon, finally Will Bruce be there....I like his autograph

Cheers for sharing your opinions on this...

I asked him and he offered to send his own biog to use to promote the gig next January, so that kind of sorted that just fine. I'll send that off to the local FM stations here and see if they can plug the gig.

So please, Mr. My T High, drop a name of that musician you'll be playin' with already.

Oh most Pretty Please?
And once you record with them, you can be on MY page.

It's ONLY for the FAMOUS IAC Artists, who are household names, or they have collaborated with already hugely successful Indie Stars.

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration.

I hate to admit it, but Bluto is right... ")

You should just mention the name casually...this communicates that you feel you are worthy to be on the same stage. This shows confidence in yourself and your value as an artist/musician. It communicates that you expect things like this to happen and it's no big deal...your music is as good and worthy as the next.

Despite the "Real Artist" bullshit that fur ball Pussy keeps spouting :)

As I was telling Bill Clinton the other day when were coming back from Sting's place with Tiger Woods, "Dropping names sucks!"... and Bill said, "Oh that was her name, is she native american?"

....making them up tho, is brilliant!!

My name has been dropped many times like this TOS OFF

My ancestors came from the area of VOLGA ( BULGARIA comes from this name VOLGA) which the name Bulgaria came from people of the Volga.being warriors and pricks, They then invaded and pushed out the Romanians who lived in that area of modern day Bulgaria The poor unfortunate souls got their asses kicked out from that country into a crappy part of Europe, modern day Romania.......Thus that is how we got the name Tosoff, cause my ancestors tossed off anyone who got in their way this is a warning, : )

....here is a song I am sure you all attempted to play or performed on the piano when you where little, pretty cool
There is a connection to some degree between the People from the area of Volga and Russia

have a great Christmas
