Thank you, Verity. Yes, it will take a while for this experiment to come together but I think that we'll just work out the problems as they arise.
I'll kick things off by asking Stoneman if he would do me the honor of covering my song "Silence The Violence".
Stoneman ~ If you choose to cover the song, the lyrics are in the usual place. Please feel free to have total creative freedom and interpret the song any way you want in any key at any tempo with any instrumentation and arrangement. I know this song is in your wheelhouse and would be a great way to start my new station: UNDER THE COVERS. There is no time pressure either. This is ongoing experiment and there is no urgency to do anything quickly. Take your time and above all, have fun!

Well, Jesse Adams already did cover one of my songs. And, frankly, I think that it turned out pretty great.
If you wanted to post this version at your station, that would be fine with me.

If I had access to a recording studio of my own I would so totally record something. Maybe even a couple of somethings. But, as it is, I'll watch from the sidelines.
It is a great idea, Richard.

Every single song is different. Something like "Break My Heart" is pretty straightforward as far as tracking is concerned: we have the 2 guitars, bass, and drums on the basics. Then we do overdubs for vocals, handclaps, and guitar solo. Mixing took a little while, though because we were doing it remotely—the engineer had gone back home to Baraboo, WI, while I stayed in Chicago—and we had to go back and forth via email. Thankfully, he is a friend of mine and charged me a flat rate for the song, all-inclusive.
And then, there is something like "Spinning, Standing Still" which was done with only 2 musicians and an engineer. For that type of thing, this is a fairly complicated arrangement and it took me over a year to get it right, if you include the false starts and failed experiments that we had. Also recorded with a friend, but this one did not rely on his studio work to pay the bills, so, luckily we got that studio time gratis.
If you are looking to hire one of the top indie-type pro studios in town, you can normally expect to pay $40 to $70 an hour for tracking/mixing. So, yeah, I am relying on the kindness of my very talented friends. Because even that all-inclusive friend rate for "Spinning" is not something that my budget can normally withstand. And I sure as hell can't afford to drop $50/hr. on what is essentially a hobby.
And, I don't want to take too much advantage of my friends, anyway, lest they think that I take them for granted. I don't.
