The movie, Belfast has one of the best soundtracks ever: at least a dozen of Van Morrison’s best songs!

Not how I would have handled it, but the guy stood up for his wife after a humiliating comment about her medical condition.

The smack seen around the world. It was magnificent from a spontaneity aspect. But I must say I was quite proud of Chris Rock and the way he took the smack and didn't even react. Oh how I wish it had been "The Rock" up there saying that shit. Would Will have smacked "The Rock" I'm just say'n that Chris is a lightweight and Will smacking him seemed more like a bully move than anything else to me. Yet, it was great TV! First time I watched the Oscars in maybe 20 years. I was not disappointed at all. The girls did a great job of hosting!

I think a verbal joust between the two wordsmiths would not only have been more appropriate but would have made more compelling tv than an extension of indoor road rage. They were both wrong but physical violence is not the way to respond to a non-violent verbal insult. It was sad that the incident overshadowed the the glory of CODA winning for best picture and the first deaf actor to win an Oscar.

Oh I definitely agree. I just don't see Will Smith as the only asshole in the incident. I didn't intend to condone violence in my original post, but in hindsight it seems to come across that way.

First I don't see how you can assume Rock knew about her ailment, secondly even if he did know it could've been good natured. it was such a benign joke.
how come Frank Sinatra didn't kill Don Rickles?

I feel like, what the hell? Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, then he accepted the Oscar for Best Actor for King Richard.

Scott, I agree that for most standards it was a benign joke. However, from the standards of Black people (Black women in particular), hair has always been a very sensitive subject that may trigger a less than favorable reaction. So, I understood that part of it. I just didn't like the fact that a much bigger man had struck a scrawny guy like Chris. If he had a problem with the joke he could have spoke to him in private later about it. But this grand display of over protection was just blatantly wrong on all fronts. Now, there are those who claim that they were both wrong but I disagree. Chris is a comedian and he was simply doing his job. Everyone in the crowd knew that it was open season on anyone in the room. Comedians have been telling great jokes about all the stars in the room for many years now. It is a part of the tradition. The part about the disease is eye opening but not necessarily a Chris problem as he says he did not know and I believe him because he has never been one to blatantly go after someone in a malicious way. Were I come from big dudes don;t beat up smaller dudes as it is considered a punk move. He acted like a bully and I sttill say that if Chris was a bigger guy, that slap would noit have happened. Also, if someone truly offended my wife in front of me, there is no way they would get off with a limp slap. But zI train in the arts and have extensive training on how to put a man down on his back. I would never do that to a little dude though. I'm just say'n.............

A lot of to do about nothing. The only way anyone would even pay attention to the event, as no one was watching or cared. So now, Friday, he resigns from the academy. So what. All it means is he can't vote. He can still work, be nominated again, and win best actor next year too! At least some have gleaned it this year, and probably would not have even known or cared without the slap. LOL

The saddest thing about the slap is that we're still talking about it. We should talk about this instead! I love James Bond music and this song is tops.
