Lost dreams
We all have goals and dreams. Sometimes goals are met and dreams are realized. Sadly this is not always the case especially in the highly competitive field of the arts. Sometimes you’re ahead of the curve, sometimes you’re behind. How do you deal with disappointment?
What keeps you going when you feel the odds are stacked against you? How do you balance the need to monetize your art with the need to create art for the joy of it? Is it harder than ever to get ahead in the arts or was it always a steep climb?

Mine was so real it wasn't a dream. I was so certain I am significantly better than many mainstream songwriters that it only seemed i needed to stake my claim on that echelon and then stand back and reap my rewards for such. However these are different times. I never got over how i felt before. I continued making music because that is what i do, who i am.

I just try to keep in touch with the reasons I started playing and creating music. It was never about business or stardom or anything like that. It was just for the love. So when I get down, I just reach for those feelings that sparked this journey. Also, I try to keep up with everything new; genres and styles, technology, etc., while maintaining my roots. And when I feel like I need a break, I take a break. I am coming out of a long hibernation right now, so expect something new soon!

I'm just disappointed that people are content to go with trends and not explore some of the great amateur musicians who produce a far superior product in many cases.
Personally I never had any dreams or expectations beyond creating songs that anyone might enjoy listening to as much as I enjoyed making them

I never wanted to be famous but I always wanted to write and perform music. The disappointments we’re painful but the triumphs were fantastic. Creating and producing original music has become it’s own reward. I was born to do it and like breathing I’ll continue doing it until I can’t do it anymore.

I would've liked to have made money for my efforts because I still struggle to pay the rent. I just kept thinking my stuff is better than much of what I hear on mainstream radio so it feels like the cream should rise to the top and it just doesn't.

Supposedly money can’t buy happiness but it sure helps!
Also: the statement that “if you work hard enough you can achieve anything you want” is simply not always true, especially in the arts. A level playing field, it’s not!

For me, everything begins and ends with prayer. I give thanks for all the good stuff and all the bad stuff alike. The good stuff feels good and give me a sense of accmplishment The bad stuff makes me wiser and eager to do better.

The Universe provides. Open yourself up to it, and when the tingles go down your spine keep them coming. It's about who you know, and the people you meet more than anything. Treat everyone with grace and it comes back to you. Don't give up, and don't do itwithselfish interest in your heart. Do it because you love it.
