Favorite METAL band?
So who would be your current favorite?

For me, at the moment (which can change by the week), it would be Chimaira.

All time would be Megadeth.

Honorable mention to 5FDP, Lizzy Borden, King Diamond, Death Angel, Exodus and Death.

Lizzy Borden, King Diamond, Death Angel and Exodus are older bands that ALL have released new material in the past 6 months. Five Finger Death Punch (5FDP) are a new band .. and DEATH is done (R.I.P. Chuck)

Good choices though! Nice to see the different ends of the METAL spectrum represented.

ANYONE ELSE have some favs??

For me, currently = Children of Bodom with KILLER Keyboard, GUITARIST & DRUMMER FROM HELL itself. My drummer said he uses some kind of advanced JAZZ 5 hits per drum hardware beat that NOBODY uses because a 4 hit per drum combo is plenty fast for ANYBODY.... Uh-- I love EARLY Metallica, I LOVE Black Sabbath (as one of the GODFATHER bands for metal), I loved NU-metal band SYSTEM OF A DOWN, before they got STUPID....and I absolutely LOVED Helmet because they opened a whole other side to metal I had not anticipated.

I also like MOST of the GOOD FUNK Metal that's out there and HARDCORE Hip-HOP Metal or even Killswitch Engage.

NICE topic!

I think Im out of the loop a bit when it comes to metal these days, but thats the great thing about it. Metal translates very well from one decade to the next, it rarely goes out of fashion.

My honourable mentions go to Cult of Luna and The Locust...

I am all about the old-school metal. Favorite bands:
Judas Priest
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Quiet Riot
Ozzy (first couple of records)

and I think that SOiL is a pretty solid new band, still mining that old school vein.

I'm old school too. Not everyone would consider these metal now, but I do.

Throughout the '70's I loved

Scorpions
UFO
Blue Oyster Cult
Nazareth

As for more current metal, I'm not thrilled by much of it. There are a few great bands that incorporate metal in with much more broad styles, like Porcupine Tree and Opeth.

I have a wide variety of musical tastes .. and when it comes to the metal world, I haven't seen a name brought up by any of you that I don't like. Although, I've never heard of Sunk Loto, all others I enjoy. I like the really old school, the old school and some of the new school.

As I stated before, pretty cool to see the wide variety of METAL you guys are bringing up. And for the record, I'm now going to give Sunk Loto a listen.

I would strongly suggest it. They have split up now but if you have a listen to 'Between Birth and Death' album you wont be dissapointed, the song Burning Bridges cannot be rivals in terms of performance and technical ability. Simply awesome.
