pondering the other side
Steves topic about Life After death came the same day I uploaded this song...or maybe the day after..
Leviathan
It's funny in a way because it's a poem I wrote about the transient nature of existence and our wondering what might be beyond..I think it's a desperate sort of wondering sometimes.
I liked the poem, the song turned out a bit dramatic I think, It was one of the first things I did where I played everything and did all the production and sometimes that puts us in the worst sort of company!
:-)
Maybe I kind of overshot it a bit..
Might be better with just an acoustic guitar..or maybe just a poem. But I worked real hard on it, and it has a groovy intro!
Anyway, Raymond was kind enough to put it on his new songs station

or you can stream it from my page

There's a fire in the tavern hearth burning alone
There's a cabin boy wandering home
A fisherman humming and mending his nets
on a beach spread with sea polished bone
the new moon is hiding, the air a black steam
a thousand small cries rise from shared fitful dream
no safe haven in sleep
something moves in the deep
there's a scattered shipwreck on a black pebbled shore
a rune carved in sea walls a gray
a moss covered ruin forgotten by lore
on a night that brings no hope of day
a silent reminder, a story now lost
no way of accounting the worth or the cost
how now to turn back the tide?
or to warm the cold chill deep inside
my language is dying my song slips away
a strand of beads lost in the sand
my last happy ancestor sleeps at the edge
of a map that is carved in my hand
a mark on the path and I know what it's for
somehow I'm certain I've been here before
a meaning in how this twig bends
but I've forgotten how this story ends.
I carved a small boat from a lightning struck tree
and carried it with me in sleep
I filled it with flowers and ashes and tears
and set it to sail on the deep.
a way of remembering, a purposeful dance
a poem woven vessel abandoned to chance
and here on the shores I abide
as I wait for some sign in the tide
the silent forgotten asleep in our bones
the people we know in our sleep
we fall through the icy abyss of the stars
and sing songs and give tears to the deep.

yea I figured..
that's a neat guitar.
I don't live by the sea, I live in the desert actually, which makes me dream of the sea.

Finally got a moment to listen Scott .... "Maybe I kind of overshot it a bit.." ...
No way ! ... This shows the true spirit of Indie ... Morrison-esque Poetry, Eastern Mantra Chant, Heavy Heart Beats, Invisible Strings, WATCH OUT FOR THAT SERPENT ... Slender Rain ... and Long Footsteps, Dreams Awakened from the Depths of the Twelfth Parallel ... I see you peeking from behind that cloud ... There is no wall between the dimensions you know ... only brains covered in plasticine
Very nice tune ... I enjoyed it immensely ... so I started it on two browsers about a few seconds apart ... and enjoyed it even more ... :)
