the #1 alternative song...
the #1 alternative song on the contest station sucks, it's like some kind of ultra cliche jesus country garbage.

Cant that stuff have it's own genre ?

What, are you jealous of the holy power of the congregation? Get your own voting congregation, and you, too, can have crap at the top of Alternative.

Heh!

That little acoustic lick is not bad, at least it's not as trite as the rest of it. Doesn't seem to me #1 Alternative material, but those 5 do look like a hundred votes a day.

Dan that song magically appeared in the contest like 3 days before the first round was done, and suddenly it had more votes than my "By Any Other Name" which had been at the top for a few days before that song magically appeared.

That's not the only genre that happened to, Weap. Seems religious fervor is cookin'!

The top 3 songs in Alternative are "Christian rock". I guess it's a result of devine intervention! (lol)

At this stage of the competition,no one should worry about the quality of songs that happen to be in the top 5 or 10. Each day is just a snapshot in the contest and the picture changes everyday. A lot can happen between now and Aug 27th.

Whether or not a song is in the appropriate category is a tricky issue. If any type of song can be entered in any category, then why have categories at all?

Well I hope that, not only VOTES are counted, but also, the judges should look at the charts, and factor that in as well as pure vote counts.

Well, Rich, it looks to me like the top five or so are pretty well stuck in a number of genres. I gather the votes are cumulative from one round to the next, too. Some determination by a few can do a whole lot to keep some peeps exactly where they are, I can tell ya that for sho.

It appears to me the judges aren't too concerned by who's on top at the moment, but they have the tools to change things if they want for the next round.

Richard-

There was NO "Spiritual" Category in the contest, and there ought to have been.

Is there anywhere to see the overall most voted songs, for all genres?

If ya don't want a "spiritual" song in the TOP 2 of ALTERNATIVE, then ya should vote for my lovely "alternative" to Christian...!
The Sun is Risin'

It's a little bit epic, and a little bit sacreligious, with vampirific flavorings, and will rock your little Alternative Asses off......

I have no beef with any song being in any position in any category. I was only making joke about devine intervention.

As far as categories, I think next time around - Classical should be a separate category from Easy Listening.

Dan - you're right that there has been very little movement in general as far as songs going up or down.
The top 5 in most genres seems pretty locked up but I still feel that anything is possible. Voter
fatigue could be setting in. There are a lot of songs to listen to. But then again maybe people will
rally for their favs in the home stretch.

With all the entrants, in retrospect it would have been a good idea to have a Christian/Spiritual category, and next time we will.

There is an offline audit of votes coming up. It includes measures not in the real-time monitoring. Just for one example, if the same entity creates excessive accounts for the purpose of voting for one or a small group of artists, the offline audit will identify that. It will be up to a panel of humans what to do in each case.

Well yeah.... I mean the GOOD news on THAT bit of extra-gaming protection you've included, is that if your VOTES are mostly coming from loads of different and UNIQUE sources, then they are gonna carry more weight.

Personally, I do find that very consoling...

All the talk about people not being happy with those in the top, in some categories, has made me just a little nervous....
So it sounds like you've taken care of the only real gaming factor in the contest....
Now we just hope the judges go for MORE than just Spit & polish......

uhhhhhh.... "spit".... haah ahaaa haaa urr.. urhurm. Heh. -pHLeGm
