Long time absence!
Dearest music friends here - for the first time in years I haven't been in touch here for the longest time, missed the Kayaks and just been out of the loop - I've actually been away most of the summer with our Gambian drum teacher Modou Diouf running workshops and also regular rehearsals with AfroWelsh Connection which I play flute with.
After the album launch of my third album Until I See You Stand on Apr 27th, I went into a real funk as it felt like such an anti climax (albeit an achievement). I can't explain it, I just felt that somehow after all the effort and hard work not to mention cost of studio time, mastering, venue etc etc I was filled with self doubt. I was really proud of the songs but occasionally I get into a state of mind where I just feel what's the point! Not about money, but wanting to share the songs to a wider audience as I believe they mean something and I know people enjoy them but if you don't spend your whole time promoting yourself it's so hard to get listeners. I suppose I need someone to do that for me but at my age I just haven't got the energy haha!!
Now, I've got over it and decided to get back into playing my own songs live again and have a gig in Wales in mid October which I'm enjoying practicing for again. If people want to hear my songs they're beautifully recorded to the best of my abilitity and available on all the usual platforms plus here. So, I'm going to try and just enjoy playing again at small events and sharing any new stuff I might come up with here!
Much love to you all here who have always encouraged and supported my efforts and I love to listen to all your music too. I'm sorry I've been absent for so long.

Welcome back, Chandra! And congrats on all you’ve accomplished. Finishing a big project is always exhausting even though is so rewarding as well. I totally relate to your question: “what’s the point?” It’s a question I ask myself quite often. And for me the point is that I have to use whatever skills I have to create art that can touch the hearts and minds of other people. I feel it’s my reason for living. It’s my purpose. But I too have my moments of doubt and pain. Artistic endeavors involve much sacrifice, hard work and financial output but the rewards far outweigh the disappointments. One of the rewards is interacting with kindred spirits like you, here on IMP. It’s a joy being among such friendly supportive fellow artists. Your positive creative energy has always been vital to this community and it’s great to have you back!

Wow! "Twice A Year" is simply fantastic! I was having trouble going to sleep and set "this one" on re-play, letting it play "over & over & over..." Wow! Wonderful! I LOVE IT! Your voice is so beautiful. Thanks! -M-

Thanks for the comment on Twice A Year which I queried about my lovely late dad as we only used to see him a couple of times a year when we were children. We had a great relationship once I was an adult. He lived to almost 95.
