Okay, I'm not Slim but I hope you don't mind if I comment on this song. First of all I'd like to speak on the beats. This song doesn't have beats at all. This is actually music back tracks with full complimentary accompaniment. It is a very rare thing to find in the Hip-Hop world. Most times it's just a beat looped over and over but this song lives with ebbs and flows and artistic structure. Speaking of flows, the flow hear is so real. I mean, the message actually makes sense and it is not just a bunch of random thoughts. I hope you don't mind if the old fart gives you some props but man I like this a lot. It's pure Hip-hop with Rock and Roll overtones. It's different from the average everyday Rap tune. This is the kind of Hip-Hop that deserves to be on the radio in a major way! Loved It! I bet Slim will also.......
Much Respect,
Stoneman

Wow, thanks Stoneman! You picked up on exactly what I was trying to do with this track. I don't mind you check it out at all btw, I meant it for everybody but figured it might appeal to Slim more than most. ;)
I'm really glad you like it, especially given you're a bit older and maybe not a hop hop head? I quit rhyming for a long time because of what hip hop morphed into and because of some of the things you mentioned. I also want to convey a message and expression, not just battle or brag about how great I am or, as you mentioned, spit out a series of random thoughts or segments that while yes, rhyme a lot technically and sound cool, don't really leave you with anything to take away from as a whole. It's just rhyming. I let my whole previous "rapper" persona go and approached the format as a songwriter. To me I look at it more as poetry I guess. I quit listening to hip hop for a long time too, except for one artist here recently that I got back into on a whim which is actually the whole reason I started rhyming again. But it's really important to me to try to steer clear of all the cliches and just be myself.
BTW, I uploaded a new mix, it's much better than the initial one I posted, more polished with a new layer of keys and a few tweaks.

I really wish the perfect banana would come back and tell me this song sucks for a multitude of reasons. Ahhh, the good ol' days.

I'm not much of a hip hop fan, but I really like this one Jesse. The progressive style of rock makes this very listenable. It shows what an artist can do with a vision and an idea.
Very Cool!

Sweet! That is was I'm going for... bridging the gap. The whole rap thing is polarizing, people either like it or hate it for the most part and I feel all tingly inside when I can get people to listen to and like something they wouldn't normally check out. :)
I do wish the delivery in SOS wasn't so "in your face" at the beginning and matched the chill vibe of the track a bit more. That way I could have grown the energy with the song as it picks up, which I kinda did but it could be much better. But I haven't done this rappin' thing in a while so I'm shakin' off the rust and learning a new approach.
