Blog?
What do you guys think I should do with the bio thingie on my page? Should I keep the longer in-depth version or shorten it up a bit? Wasn't sure who to ask so I thought I'd ask y'all (I possibly may have just used that word for the first time ever), it seemed to make the most sense.
Plus thanks to all who have checked out my stuff, and for the stations who've added me. Very cool! There's some really good music on this site.

Jesse,
Originally I started with a long bio but I soon shortened it because it doesn't really impress anyone or make them want to listen to your music. It's better to let the songs do the talking for you. Sometimes if you over hype your stuff it's sets up expectations that may be hard to meet. But make an effort to say what you think might entice folks to listen and keep it concise. You can always add promotional info in the de_scriptions of the songs, but very few people want to read your entire resume or mine!

People read your bio AFTER they hear your music, or after they read you making an egregious fool of yourself on your post.
So, you can either excuse yourself with your bio, or pump yourself up, it's just an enhancement, nothing critical.

"y'all" ... is a fantastic word ! ... :) I hippin to use er quite a bit ... :)
Everyone is different but I find I like bios like I like music ... Real ...
I don't like being talked to like I'm some ignorant hillbilly (even if I am) ... A touch of personal stuff and a sense your EGO ISN'T THIS BIG goes along way with me ...
Save all that "Here I am" stuff for he newspaper ... Just my opinion ...

I had a long bio up , and invited pipeliners to read it. I thought the response was fantastics-- very friendly. But I did shorten it later and then moved it to my pipeline page (kranky king).
I enjoy a "bio" -- if it's really a biography -- but I lose interest quickly if it's too self-promoting.
Funny that Sam should be down on the lengthy bio thing, He's had a VERY interesting life in my opinion -- done a lot of different things, sometimes inside the box, sometimes outside the box. I demand a huge bio from Sam!!!!!!! And everyone else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O.K. Kozy ! ... I'll work on it LOL ! .... I actually have nothing against long bios and I love reading good ones ... I just don't like Bio's written in the 3rd party sense ... or like you said ... too self-promoting ... and I love to read a little humor between the lines too, although not a must ....
Jesse your music is a mighty fine bio in and of itself .. :) and if I remember correctly I thought your written bio was interesting ...

Thanks Sam. See I always kind of thought the same myself, as far as letting the music speak for itself... after all, isn't that why we're here? I guess I'm just curious as to how much people care or want to know about the artist's background. I find myself mostly concerned with bands or singers I really like, but it can be interesting if it's a good bio about where they came from and not about how intriguing and great their music is. I think I'll shorten mine to the basics, and if someone wants to know, they can ask. ;)
Thanks for the input guys!

I don't use much of a bio myself. I created a station of all my songs and for awhile on that I had a long list of testimonials from other artists, etc. I don't think anybody noticed it and that station for a time was in the top 10 of all stations at IAC.
Someday I might blog on the pipeline about my bio, there are so many who don't know who FT is and my history. 2 out of 100 people here might find it interesting. :)

I have a past too. Eye of Storm is about the moment we are living in. The past is about making yourself credible.

We like long bio's with details about the artist, so that we can have a read after we click on the "Stream All" link to play all the songs on an artists page... it's good to listen to a few songs from an artist.... so we are going to check you out!

Present yourself clearly in each moment providing the history of your experience as only you can give and by the knowledge you've gained from the past. Your future then will move ahead according to your vision and heart's desires for what you want to experience ahead of you.

Father Time - Must have been a good station! ;) But hey it's those 2 out of 100 that count right?
But I think think bio's are ignored a lot. Like just now I was checking out a page with a lengthly bio, and I scrolled right passed it looking for the music. If the music appeals to the listener, then maybe they're inclined to learn more about the artist.

I think that's exactly how it works. If you really really like some artist's music, THEN you want to learn about them. The bios can work for that, so can the blogs.

Hi Jesse, I'm much more likely to listen to an artist with some words about themselves on their page but I prefer something that gives a clue to the character of the person and the style of their music rather than a list of things they have achieved and the names they have appeared with etc. I read your little strap line and I liked the humour in it. I also like when an artists says something about each song they have put up, that tempts me to listen.

I think we all are making valid points. I think it's great you can post a blog like this and actually have intelligent feedback come your way... sweet! I've come to the conclusion that bios are fine and good, just make it personal and relatable, a background story if you will, not a commercial. Nobody cares how great you are if they think your music sucks.
