Why all the disrespect?
I know from my short time being here, you can post a blog or response that's fairly neutral, a mere opinion if you will, and get attacked for it. I'm not the only one of course. Is it because I'm young? Is it because I don't have 40 songs on my page all with powerfully deep lyrical content, therefor I'm irrelevant and should let the big boys and girls do all the talking? Or like with anything else, is it just because there is always those few that like to go around criticizing and putting others down because it's what they do? There's no reason for it. I thought this was supposed to be fun, not just another added stress factor.
In any event, it's disappointing. I thought we were supposed to be a community? It's not very friendly sometimes... reminds me of high school.
Sorry Toby if this strikes you as a site issue. It's more about people to me. Besides I'm gonna step away from blogging for a while anyways.
Cheers

Jesse I think you overstate this. I read almost everything and saw that Twibe guy mouth off but he's a new guy too. I think I even saw him apologize, did you see that?
Has there been anybody else, really? I am curious about your exposure to the internet in general because this place is almost milquetoast compared to almost any other forum around in the area of personal attacks that is. Were you on a political thread? That's about the only place it gets a little testy.

Hey- I don't really have a reference regarding how you have been disrespected, but I will say that IAC is kind of like a "family" community for me. Sometimes people are taken for granted, sometimes people get busted on (even me), sometimes we can get on each others nerves, but in the end it's all good. I would suggest not taking it all too seriously (not because I think you do- but because it's not a good idea). We all need to vent sometimes or just blow off steam. Heck, I've been in a few intense conversations myself. SOME PEOPLE are just trouble makers too (you know who you are ;P) Ok I'm not thinking of any particular persons, but sometimes we all like to start trouble, even just in fun.
Anywho-
I hope you don't disappear!

Hi Jesse... I regret that I haven't stopped in on any of your blogs before now to comment... I have enjoyed reading your thoughts on the site.
I understand what you are speaking of... I think it's hard sometimes to come in as the new kid(speaking for myself as well)... there are those that have been here for quite sometime and banter around... tossing each others comments around the room... quite often in good fun... understanding one anothers humor. I think sometimes tho... things are said and misunderstandings occur... perceived differently than what was meant... at other times I think just as in any social situation we can get under each others skin. I don't know that there is a solution other than for each of us to be responsible with how we choose to react... not allowing ourselves to take anothers... sometimes negative words so personally... that's quite hard to do if you are in a situation where you are feeling personally attacked. I know that the way I choose to interact with others may not be in the same manner as another... we all have our own way of doing things. I very rarely allow myself to comment in a negative way... even when I have at times wanted to (it ties me up in knots, so I personally... most of the time have to avoid it)... but there are those moments when I find myself feeling passionate about something... and I have just enough feistyness in me that I can take a stand when I feel that it is appropriate. It's good to share perspectives... it's always better tho when it can be done in a manner that is respectful to others.
I'm sorry that you feel the need to take time away from blogging and sharing your thoughts... sometimes it's good to breathe tho. I do hope that you won't allow... the sometimes school yard atmosphere to keep you away for long. I find you intersting, talented and enjoy your presence.
If you are so inclined... I have a blog that you might want to read "The Healing Power of Music"... maybe it will touch you in a way that music was able to touch me.
Chin up!!

Hey Jesse,
My quick observation of you is you don't take any Bullshit from anyone. This is a good trait to have, but unfortunately on the internet it can lead to misunderstandings and elevate negative situations. Sometimes an attempt at levity can come off as quite brash. My advice would be to not take it too serious, and try to see what the posters real message is. Here is a perfect example...twibe is trying to make things right. There was a bit of shit talking in there earlier :) but without body language or eye contact you can't really see the true intentions.
This is a cool site, there are pleny of personalities that clash...but for the most part things get resolved amicably.
I think speaking your mind is an admirable trait, my advice to you...(and myself) is to not get too defensive and let the small shit slide...in the end its all small shit in the scheme of things.
Stick around Bro, and continue to speak your mind. If people really start to disrespect you, I think you will find a few people on this site who will speak to the situation. There are plenty of strong willed Individuals that also play music on the pipeline :) I think we all have the same goals, and do not want to bring down the site with truly mean spirited interaction.
Peace...
Jeff

Wherever you go, you will meet all kinds of people.
Enjoy the wonderful people and the great friends you will make here. Disgard the ones who snub you or who are rude. Why do you give them your precious energy? I've been new and I've been old and then new again. I've been me and I've been anon. The same great people come through. The same a-holes will always be just that.

Jesse, don't even worry about it. There'll always be people that are disrespectful, now and again. Don't let it get to ya. As you can see, most of the anons, listeners, and musicians are cool & give you a fair shake on IAC. And we all get under each others skin a little sometimes. It's the nature of bein' a "sensitive" artist-type.
Ignore the nay-sayers & silly-assed shit-talkers. Rock On!

Hang in there Jesse ... there are a lot of great people on this site ... as far as the disrespect, it is a part of life everywhere ...
A lot of people probably think I'm full of crap (and maybe I am) ... and I do think there is "personal responsibility" in these matters ... but I am a very strong believer in the effects of positive and negative energy ... either side can take control of you if you let it ... energy of either type draws more energy of it's type ... I try to stay away from the negative side as much as possible but I am guilty at times of being pulled into it's forces ...
Right now we are in the middle of an election year ... and I have noticed, not only here, (in a small proportion), but around the web (in a large proportion ) that the blogs are full of negative energy ... and it's not a good thing IMO ...
Not to turn this into a political thread but I believe the negative attacks against Obama for his positive enthusiasm and vision are a sad thing to see ... That's what this Country needs ... that's what the World needs ... POSITIVE ENERGY is always good ... NEGATIVE ENERGY is always bad ...
I see the negative energy from all this negative political crap, showing up in threads that are not even political ... I believe there is a correlation that directly effects the world and peoples negative and positive emotions ...
Anyway enough of my philosophical views ... Hope you have a GREAT day !

But then again, it is easy to take anything offensively if you are looking for it. You may not always find agreement or get what someone is blogging on about but most of the time you will find it is not meant to be disrespectful, unless of course you need everything to cater to your own sensibilities as not to offend you which I'm sure is not the case.
Diversity is seldom agreeable and demands a bit of effort and stamina in the ways of open heartedness and the giving of the benefit of the doubt. I would assume that after reading all the care and nurturing coming from the community here on your behalf that it just might testify to you that this is not such a disrespectful place to hang ?

That's music forums for you!
In fact, online forums of anykind really.
What you have to understand, is that it's very difficult to express the meaning of your words in the same way as if you were speaking them.
sometimes a friendly jibe can come accross as a serious insult, because the tone of voice doesn't translate into the written word very well.
Maybe your words are misunderstood, or maybe you misunderstand the words of others, because the way in which they were speaking them, got lost as the words were being typed into the computer console.
another point is the sad fact that online forums are a great place for people to be a lot more arsey than they would ever be in person, because of the relative annonimity.
just my humble opinion.
stick with it over a longer period and I'm sure you will find people on here with whom you share a great deal in common, and can can have some great debates.

I'm listening to "False Start" as I type and realize that you are a very talented young soul Jesse, but perhaps a bit of patience might lend itself well for you here... give it a bit more time as people move in their own ways and paces but you will eventually be heard and anyone with ears will definitely find a respect for your sound. The depth of your words speak clearly in the contents of your work.

Jesse.
You suck.
I just wanted you to know that, because I don't know who the heck you are ... or what you believe ... or even what your music sounds like ... but I simply wanted to express my complete ambivalence in words.
You can call me an asshole for what I believe ... but ... frankly ...
You might be right.
I'm okay w/ that.
I learned to relax on the net, and the vibe flows right through my non-caringness ... for it's the net. How wonderfully shallow it is! It's EASY to not get caught in the net!
I love to make up new words.

I never expected a response like this. For the record this blog was not specifically about the Twibe incident, just want to clear that up.
I've read more support here from you all than I would have ever imagined, and it's very cool, kind and genuine. Thanks to all for the kind words and advice and to those who gave their time to respond.
It seems I still have much to learn. ;)

What I see is that many lead topics are quickly stop clipped and spun into person to person slap fights which end what might be great discussions. As easy as it seems to be for one or two to kill the group...Maybe its just as easy to grab the front and bring it back around. There is no Best, Better, Genius or Great with the power or rite to talk from above or expect you to act as a lesser.
Some Musicians will be complete C5nts to you. And then their music will push your soul into frenzy. Awesome thing Is. In your IAC world They do not even have to exist
If you choose not to acknowledge. You can't take a voice away. Is there a language police or community for this site? All about freedom of speech until personal attacks are severe enough to effect the purpose of this site and open comment section.
Lets finish the talk about this now

I don't know if it's that it's an election year or we've all mistakenly put our winter woolies on when it's still summer, but this is the second time in a couple of weeks that (non-political) posts on the Pipeline have caused hard feelings.
Don't let it get to you Jesse, IAC is the most supportive spot we've found and that's a big reason we're here. Artists supporting other artists in an attempt to bring INDIE to the attention of more people is more what you'll find here than any momentary blog spat...
Keep in mind that pipeline posts disappear in a couple of days and keep your focus on your excellent music instead. You'll find lots of friendly folk in these waters.
Keep crankin'

And Kev, I knew what you meant. Your post stood out quite a bit and made me realize that people are always gonna say what they will, it's up to me whether or not to get all bent out of shape about it... I remember thinking to myself as I was reading your post, "Yeah, I see your point man." I was taking things too seriously, as many others had mentioned as well.
So thanks! And no worries. I'm glad I've posted this thread though because it's really opened my eyes to some of the great people here... everyone's pretty genuine and I really dig that.
